Rockstar Games has seen its fair share of leaks, with the most discussed one being the apparent leak of the source code of GTA San Andreas. The supposed leak created a lot of buzz on social media, with some fans calling it one of the biggest leaks in Rockstar Games' history. However, a new report has questioned the authenticity of the leak.

According to an X post by @PliskinDev on January 6, 2025, it has been confirmed that the GTA San Andreas source code leak is fake. The post stated that the file contains ransomware, which could do some serious damage to one’s hardware or personal information.

Leaked GTA San Andreas source code file doesn’t seem to be a complete game: Report

As seen in the abovementioned post, @PliskinDev shared screenshots of the supposed GTA San Andreas source code file. While it may look like the real thing at first glance, the file size is worth noting. According to the report, one of the leaked files is less than 18GB, which is supposedly way less than what one can expect from a complete game.

The second screenshot contains .rhysida files. For those not in the know, Rhysida is considered a ransomware that has existed since 2023. According to the US Health Sector Cybersecurity Coordination Centre, such files can steal data and “threatens victims in ransom note.

This seemingly proves that the supposed leak is nothing more than a malicious attempt at stealing the personal data of those downloading these files. While the GTA San Andreas source code is apparently fake, there is another leak that seems to be legit.

Another GTA leak reportedly reveals intriguing details

In December 2024, several files related to Grand Theft Auto 3 and San Andreas reportedly leaked online. The leak claimed talked about several never-heard-before details regarding Rockstar’s classic titles. According to the leak, there was a multiplayer Grand Theft Auto project planned in 2001. This was later canceled due to the tech limitations of the time.

Another major talking point of the leak was the scrapped girlfriends, which were reportedly planned for Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. The game was supposed to have more girlfriends, giving more emphasis to the romantic relationship feature of the classic title.

As legit as it seems, fans are always advised to take such leaks with a grain of salt. Rockstar Games hasn’t officially commented or acknowledged the leak as of this writing.
