The GTA San Andreas VR project will not be released anytime soon as Meta has confirmed that it has been put on hold for an indefinite period. Grand Theft Auto and Meta Quest fans have been waiting for its release since 2021. While both Rockstar Games and Meta remained silent on it for years, the latter has finally opened up about the latest status of the popular video game project.
Fans shared their mixed reactions after the latest confirmation from Meta. While some are still hopeful, others have given up on the dream of playing the GTA San Andreas VR version.
GTA San Andreas VR: Meta confirms its latest status on YouTube
The entire GTA San Andreas VR story developed when on August 14, 2024, the official YouTube handle of Meta Quest (YouTube/@MetaQuestVR) published Skydance's Behemoth trailer on its channel. One viewer named internet pebble (YouTube/@internetpebble4731) asked the company:
“Behemoth looks great meat but where is GTA San Andreas VR”
Meta Quest replied with:
“GTA: San Andreas is on hold indefinitely while we both focus on other projects. We look forward to working with our friends at Rockstar in the future.”
It is worth noting that the previous update on the VR project stated that the company was still working on it:
“Hey there! Indeed we don't have a release date yet, but we're working on it!”
But, as of August 2024, the project has been put on an indefinite hold, disappointing the fandom. There are many reasons why the game is still popular and the GTA San Andreas VR project was expected to revive the cult of the 2004 title.
Ameer (X/@SynthPotato), a renowned insider in the Grand Theft Auto community, shared their thoughts as follows:
One user named j (X/@dreamvillien) shared some insights about the ambitious project.
However, readers are advised to take the information with a grain of salt, as it is yet to be officially verified.
Another thing also worth noting is that Meta initially announced the VR project for Quest 2. However, Quest 3 is already available in the market with no signs of the 2004 title. Both Rockstar and Meta should try their best to utilize the GTA San Andreas gameplay features in the VR world.
Players shouldn't expect anything to hear about it from Rockstar Games anytime soon.
