Rockstar Games released a brand new background update today, July 17, 2024, for GTA Online, fixing a number of bugs and glitches plaguing the game for some time, especially since the latest Bottom Dollar Bounties DLC. One of the most notable issues this title has had concerns its PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions. Players on these consoles were subjected to a major Career Progress bug that has finally been fixed.
Popular Rockstar insider Tez2 addressed the background update on X, providing its full patch notes and confirming that certain bugs have been removed.

As can be seen above, Tez2 shared their report on the social media platform, listing various GTA Online bugs and glitches that were been fixed with the background update. Here are the patch notes:
- An issue in the Most Wanted-Thompson mission cutscene where the target clips through the ground
- An issue that was causing tattoos to overlap between characters upon switching between them.
- The bug in the “Security all bounty targets alive” Career Progress. (PS5 and Xbox Series X/S only)
- The glitch that used to enable early access to Bottom Dollar Bounties drip-feed clothing and outfits for female characters.
- The glitch with the help of which players never used to fall off the bike.
- The money glitch related to the Salvage Yard Robbery Target vehicle.
- The Bunker dup glitch.
Players should note that the background update went live after Rockstar released an official GTA 5 patch today, July 17, 2024, for all platforms — including the PS4, PC, and Xbox One. According to Rockstar Game Support, here is what the latter release does in brief:
- General fixes for security and stability
- Fixes a networking issue due to which vehicles used to become inaccessible or invisible
- Fixes an "I have read and accept" issue
- Fixes an issue with the Privacy Policy on the PC
The next weekly update is scheduled for release on July 18, 2024, and will go live around 2 am PST.
