Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar Games' parent company, confirmed GTA 6's release window as Fall 2025 in their latest earnings call. However, well-known insider @that1detectiv3 believes that the game might have been internally delayed. The reasoning behind it is the new Net Booking revenue projection for Take-Two's Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25), which is much lower than what was previously expected in the same period.

@that1detectiv3 has presented some intriguing theories in the past related to GTA Online updates, GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition's release on the Epic Games Store, and a few related to GTA 6 as well. While no delays were officially mentioned by Take-Two in the earnings call, the internal delay theory appears to have some merit.

This is because Take-Two had announced an anticipated eight billion dollars in FY25 Net Bookings in their 2023 earnings calls. Although Grand Theft Auto 6 was never mentioned directly back then, it was likely the best possible candidate to help achieve that original revenue goal.

GTA 6 might be releasing in Fall 2025 after an internal delay

Take-Two Interactive held their Q4 2024 earnings call on May 16, 2024, and confirmed Fall 2025 as the GTA 6 release window. Here's what they stated:

"As we enter Fiscal 2025 with positive momentum, we expect to deliver Net Bookings of $5.55 to $5.65 billion. Our outlook reflects a narrowing of Rockstar Games' previously established window of Calendar 2025 to Fall of Calendar 2025 for Grand Theft Auto VI."

As can be noted from the above statement, Take-Two now expects between $5.55 and $5.65 billion in Net Bookings in FY25. The significant dip in the projected revenue for the period from previous expectations might be due to GTA 6 getting internally delayed and not releasing in this window.

That said, the suspicions of an internal delay cannot be confirmed as neither Rockstar nor Take-Two have stated anything along these lines. The Fall 2025 release window could have always been the plan as no other release windows were announced for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto sequel before now.

The GTA series has now sold over a whopping 425 million units. Note that this is the collective sales figure of all Grand Theft Auto games as of this writing, and it is a significant increase from the 420+ million sales reported in Take-Two's February 2024 earnings call.

While the franchise on the whole is very popular within the gaming community, GTA 5 selling approximately 200 million units alone is the biggest contributor to this massive sales figure.
