George Groves describes his relationship with Rockstar Games (Images via Rockstar Games)

Former British, Commonwealth, and European, as well as WBA World Champion boxer George Groves, was recently sponsored by GTA 6 developer Rockstar Games. He briefly talked about his relationship with Rockstar in the November 8, 2024 episode of his podcast, George Groves Boxing Club. The episode featured Groves' trainee, Lucas Roehrig, who was asked by the podcast's co-host, Declan Taylor, about this sponsorship.

"I saw the T-shirt. You got big sponsor behind you as well. I saw that on Instagram, Rockstar Games, the GTA behemoth of gaming."

As soon as GTA was mentioned, George Groves took the opportunity to clarify that they didn't know anything about GTA 6.

"Yeah, look we don't know anything about GTA 6 alright."

He then talked about their association with Rockstar Games, describing it as a "personal relationship". Here's what he said:

"It's a personal relationship you know with the Rockstar guys. They're like family now. They're invested on the journey so you know they want to support us every way, any way they can, so we're really appreciative of them."

This episode of the George Groves Boxing Club podcast is available on YouTube. The video is titled "The Future of Boxing - Lucas Roehig". This particular segment takes place close to the video's end, around the 42:22 mark.

Declan Taylor also asked Lucas Roehrig during the podcast about possibly featuring in a Grand Theft Auto title in the future.

"Maybe you could feature in if, no, when you're world champion, you'd be in GTA 6 or maybe GTA 7 by then."

Roehrig responded to that by saying:

"That would be crazy. That would be amazing."

Rockstar Games announced sponsoring George Groves through a reel on Instagram on October 29, 2024. Here's what the gaming industry giant wrote in the caption of that post:

"We’re excited to be sponsoring @stgeorgegroves as he trains future champion @lucasroehrig1 — We wish them the very best on their road to the top!"

Several comments on this post were about the next, and highly-anticipated Grand Theft Auto installment - GTA 6.

Only one trailer of the upcoming title has been showcased so far, but fans are eager to see more. An exact release date has not been announced yet either, but a Fall 2025 release window was confirmed by Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two Interactive, earlier this year.
