Dominic Monaghan, known for his work in the Lord of the Rings franchise, recently talked about the impact of GTA 3 in an interview. The title's release in 2001 revolutionized the gaming industry in many ways and greatly helped Grand Theft Auto become the juggernaut that it is today. Speaking on GTA 3, the Lord of the Rings actor mentioned how he couldn't believe that games had gotten to that level. Here's what he added:
"The leap was just extraordinary and you know the soundtrack is incredible, all the options were incredible."
Dominic Monaghan also mentioned how he loved little things about GTA, such as being able to steal any car. He said:
"I felt like I got really good at driving so you get to that point where everything starts going really fast, I kind of enjoyed that, but I think that was the big turnaround for me where I was like oh I didn't realize that games had got to this point."
He even talked about GTA 5 in the same interview and revealed that he liked Franklin more than Michael, and had a conflicting experience playing as Trevor.
Lord of the Rings actor Dominic Monaghan talks about playing GTA 3 and GTA 5
In a recent interview with GameSpot on YouTube, Dominic Monaghan shared his experience of playing GTA 3 on the PlayStation 2 and how it made him realize the leap that video games had taken.
Monaghan also talked about how he really liked Franklin in GTA 5 but wasn't as crazy about Michael. He then revealed that he enjoyed playing as Trevor sometimes but felt dirty doing the same on other occasions. Here's what he said:
"Trevor is, sometimes I really enjoyed playing him and then other times I just felt kind of dirty, I felt like I needed a shower after I played it, but incredible game."
The actor's sentiment is quite understandable, given that Trevor is easily the most unhinged protagonist the Grand Theft Auto series has ever seen. While he can be entertaining, it cannot be denied that he commits some very questionable acts.
However, that game would likely not be what it is without the massive success that GTA 3 was for Rockstar Games.
