Xbox buying GTA 6's parent company Take-Two: Rumor explored

Microsoft’s Xbox is rumored to be buying the parent company of GTA 6 developer Rockstar Games. Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. owns the gaming studio, and according to an X user named G.O.A.T. GAMING (X/@iiamcloudman), the Head of Xbox is preparing to buy it.

Readers are advised to take this information with a grain of salt as neither Take-Two Interactive nor Microsoft has said anything on the matter. Thus, it remains a rumor for the moment.

On July 1, 2024, G.O.A.T. GAMING shared the above post claiming that Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox, is looking to acquire Take-Two Interactive. The user cited an unnamed insider and stated that Microsoft had planned to offer $28 billion to the GTA 6 owner for the acquisition.

While the news looked intriguing, many Grand Theft Auto fans did not believe the claims. A popular Rockstar Games insider named Ben (@videotechuk_) commented:

“Not happening. Stop misleading people”

Another user @thegamerzden19 stated:

“You are good with this estimate $28B. That is funny because the close on Friday for TTWO was 27.211B. M$ would have to go in with at least 35B to appease the stockholders, plus the upside of the forthcoming GTA6.”

User DD___12 (X/@JackCraka114646) said:

“Didn’t they buy activision for 70 billion. To buy take two it should be atleast 80 billion”

It is worth noting that Take-Two Interactive is one of the biggest and most profitable video game companies. It owns several studios, including Rockstar Games. The Grand Theft Auto franchise is undoubtedly the biggest asset of the organization, with GTA 6 already making headlines with each reveal. Therefore, changing its organizational structure before a big project release looks unlikely.
