Five months ago, a popular YouTuber and Twitch streamer took on the challenge of beating GTA 4 while maximizing the in-game traffic speed. Driving in Grand Theft Auto 4 is quite difficult according to a large section of the fanbase, as the vehicle handling is a lot more realistic compared to its predecessors and successor. Most of the roads in Liberty City, which is modeled after NYC, are quite narrow, making this even more challenging.

Now, there's a mod that lets you increase the AI traffic speed by "999%," which is naturally, a terrible idea unless you just want the laughs. Tom Walker, a renowned comedian, YouTuber, and Twitch streamer, has done just this, challenging himself to finish the entire game.

In a recent interview with Aftermath, Tom Walker explains why he decided to do a unique GTA 4 playthrough where the AI traffic is ridiculously fast:

"I get the idea in my head that I will defeat stupid challenges that don't matter pretty often. To me, one of the most human things you can do is commit yourself to a challenge that doesn't matter, that only you care about, and that you could stop doing at any time."

He concluded with an interesting, almost philosophical statement:

"If life is suffering, why not choose more suffering – and more life?"

The GTA 4 mod that Tom is using for his videos is called Warp Eleven (Super Fast Traffic) by Synchronex and it's available at ModDB. What it does is increase all in-game traffic by a ridiculous amount. It's inspired by the "Warp Eleven" cheat in Midtown Madness, where, by naming your character "Warp Eleven," all in-game traffic would start moving at 'warp speed'.

The mod was inspired by Gipphe's Carmageddon Mod for GTA 4, which gives negative base friction to almost all vehicles in the game. Whenever an affected vehicle is in contact with a surface, be it the road, a wall, or even a ceiling, it will keep accelerating.

Tom Walker started his challenge about five months ago and he's still going on with his modded playthrough. As you can see from his videos, vehicles start flying and crashing into each other at ridiculous speeds. The player character is in danger the moment he steps out into the streets of Liberty City. Even the cutscenes are affected, which makes for some hilarious moments.

For instance, one cutscene that features several Lost MC bikers ends up wrong as most of the motorcycles speed up and some catch fire. However, the cutscene requires the vehicles to stay in place, resulting in empty, burning motorbikes riding on without bikers to control them.
