The rise of AI-generated content across media of late has made some Grand Theft Auto fans question if anything similar could be used in GTA 6. For those unaware, this technology can be used to generate assets or artwork in a video game. Since Rockstar Games has barely showcased anything from its upcoming release (besides the first trailer's footage) so far, it cannot be confirmed if AI-generated content will be used in it.
That said, while using this technology does seem intriguing on paper, it may not be that great an idea. For instance, Call of Duty Black Ops 6 reportedly used AI-generated artwork, and fans don't seem to be hyped about that. So, in this article, we will take a look at five possible reasons why GTA 6 might not use AI-generated content.
Note: Whether Grand Theft Auto 6 will or will not use AI-generated content has not been officially revealed. This article is speculative and only reflects the writer's opinions.
Here are 5 possible reasons why GTA 6 might not use AI-generated content
1) The technology is still relatively new
AI-generated content has become a common sight on the internet in the last few years, with videos and music being some of the best examples. However, it can still be considered to be in its early stages and should take a bit more time to be perfected.
With Fall 2025 being the GTA 6 release window, this technology would have been fairly new during the Rockstar title's core stages of development. Hence, it's unlikely it was utilized in the game's production.
2) Could lack intricate details or make mistakes
Rockstar Games titles are known to have an incredible amount of detail. The studio's 2018 release, Red Dead Redemption 2, is the latest and perhaps the best example of this. This level of detail in assets, NPC behavior, and dialogues is best when hand-crafted and personally tended to by developers.
Using AI to generate such content may be quicker, but it could easily lack the level of detail that separates a Rockstar title from any other video game. Additionally, it can make mistakes like in the Black Ops 6 artwork (allegedly AI-generated), where Neroclaus has six fingers.
3) Could mismatch the game's art style
Most video games have their specific art style. Assets like trees, clothing, buildings, and NPC models have to be rendered in a certain way to represent that.
Once again, using the help of AI to generate this type of content can be quicker or seem more efficient for a big video game like Grand Theft Auto 6. However, a potential issue with such content is that it may not match the art style that the game intends to be themed around.
4) Could cause copyright issues
Besides the potential risk of mismatching a game's art style or not carrying the same level of detail as a hand-crafted asset would, AI-generated content might cause copyright-related problems as well.
Grand Theft Auto games typically feature fictional brands, and the same should be the case in the next one based on leaks and GTA 6 trailer footage. That said, AI-generated branding resembling an actual brand could cause copyright issues.
5) GTA 6 is likely Rockstar's biggest release ever
The hype around Grand Theft Auto 6 is unlike anything else. Fans have formed countless fan theories just speculating the GTA 6 trailer 2 release date itself. Needless to say, Rockstar Games has to deliver it in the best way possible.
The title not meeting expectations could result in a major backlash from fans, as seen in the case of GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition. Therefore, avoiding any potential issues, such as the ones mentioned in this list, would be a no-brainer — this is possibly why Rockstar might refrain from using AI-generated content in GTA 6.
