"Rockstar already recycling content"—GTA 6 fans think backporting of assets is real and it's happening right in front of our eyes

Grand Theft Auto fans believe Rockstar Games might have backported some assets from GTA 6 over to GTA Online via the latter's Bottom Dollar Bounties update that was released on June 25, 2024. Reddit user DogWifDreads pointed out in a recent post how a newly added necklace looked strikingly similar to one seen in the upcoming title's trailer.

A layered necklace worn by the girl wearing a white bikini in the first GTA 6 trailer seems to have been backported to GTA Online via its latest update as the Silver Layered Necklace.

While Rockstar Games hasn't confirmed if the two items are the same, the resemblance is quite uncanny. Fans, notably, had varied reactions to DogWifDreads's discovery with some expressing surprise and others joking about the developer already recycling content.

As per the latest GTA Online patch notes, over 150 and 200 new clothing items and accessories have been added for male and female characters, respectively, in the Bottom Dollar Bounties update. Hence, it shouldn't come as a surprise if more backported assets are discovered moving forward.

However, clothing is not the only item suspected of being backported from GTA 6. The sequel's trailer briefly showcases a cop car that looks very much like the Bravado Gauntlet Interceptor, a police car that was introduced in GTA Online in March 2024.

In fact, fans are even suspicious of the new Ubermacht Niobe being backported from GTA 6. Those interested in checking out the car can buy it from GTA Online's Legendary Motorsport website.

Back when the first Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer was released, fans were intrigued to see a bunch of GTA Online cars returning in the sequel. However, it now seems that Rockstar Games might be teasing fans by backporting content from the upcoming installment over to its 2013 multiplayer.

While the rumor of a Bottom Dollar Bounties artwork character being Wyman from the GTA 6 leaks has been debunked (he is instead a new Most Wanted Target named Leroy O'Neil), the Silver Layered Necklace's case seems a lot stronger. It also wouldn't be out of Rockstar Games' character to tease its player base in such a manner.

Additionally, GTA Online is expected to receive at least one more major DLC, likely this winter, before Grand Theft Auto 6's release window arrives in Fall 2025. So, it will be interesting to see if potential future GTA Online updates tease the sequel in this way as well.
