Rockstar Games has yet to announce a GTA 6 release date, except for the 2025 release year. The actual date and the wait period are still a topic of discussion among fans. Recently, a Reddit user named Cristian Dominic Mutale (u/Cristian_Mutale) asked the r/GTA community whether they think the 10+ years of wait will be worth it.
One user named kingcobra704 (u/kingcobra704) commented:
“It will be a good game (it better be) but it's been way too long. Rockstar is f*cking around with us plain and simple. It's been as long from GTA 5 to now as it was from Vice City to GTA 5.”
Many other fans also stated that waiting 12 years for the GTA 6 release date to come along is a bit too long.
According to the Grand Theft Auto 6 leaker Arion Kurtaj, Rockstar Games has been developing the upcoming game since 2014. If his claims are true, then the development period has likely touched 10 years, and fans will have to wait one more year for the game to come out.
One user, u/Creepy-Sheepherder22, stated that a five-year gap is enough for game development.
One Redditor named Bob Bobber Bobby (u/Electrical_Room5091) justified the waiting period by saying:
“The only AAAA game we will get in a long time. Rockstar is one of the few developers left who will polish their games for years and spend insane money to ensure their game is the best in every category.”
Many others also commented that the GTA 6 gameplay will be worth the wait.
A few months back, there was also news that Rockstar Games would delay GTA 6's release to 2026. While the rumor has yet to be debunked, the community collectively denied it.
Which platforms will Rockstar Games release GTA 6 for in 2025?
As per the official information, Rockstar Games will release Grand Theft Auto 6 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S at the initial stage. The studio is only aiming for the latest generation of consoles that have enough hardware power to run the game.
While the clips in the GTA 6 leaks were of very low quality, the first official trailer showed that the series is taking a remarkable leap in terms of graphics and physics. Therefore, selecting only the new consoles is certainly a healthy decision from the developer.
In the meantime, the PC player base is also waiting for the game’s announcement for their platform. While Rockstar Games has yet to officially announce GTA 6's PC version, Take-Two Interactive indirectly hinted that it would arrive on other platforms later.
