Grand Theft Auto fans want a re-haul of the melee fighting system in GTA 6. Although it is not as widely used as gunfight and drive-by shootings; if Rockstar Games implements it correctly, fans will certainly engage in melee combats more. The Def Jam series could be an inspiration for the developer to improve the fighting system in the upcoming title. Many fans often complain that Grand Theft Auto 5‘s melee combats were a downgrade from its predecessors.
Therefore, Rockstar should focus on improving the fighting system in the upcoming game. This article briefly explains what inspirations GTA 6 should take from the Def Jam series to improve melee combats.

How GTA 6’s fighting mechanism can be improved from the Def Jam series
The Def Jam series has a lot of things to take inspiration for the GTA 6 gameplay. Since fighting is one of the primary USPs of the game, developer Electronic Arts put heavy emphasis on it. The characters in the Def Jam series can perform various fighting movements depending on the situation.
In Grand Theft Auto 5, Rockstar Games used a limited number of fighting movements. As a result, not only veteran fans were disappointed, but the fighting looked boring and repetitive as well. The studio should take inspiration from the wide range of fighting movements of the Def Jam series and make GTA 6’s fighting mechanism more detailed.
Rockstar can make use of the character movements, special and charged attacks, and hardcore finishing moves. The details in Grand Theft Auto 6 will make the gameplay look even more immersive. Plus, heavy combat effects will also increase the adrenaline rush in players, keeping them on the edge of their seats.
Another thing Rockstar Games should take inspiration from is the fighting capabilities of the NPCs. While it is obvious that making every NPC an expert fighter will not be suitable for the game, some specific GTA 6 NPCs should have this quality.
In the current game, you can knock down some NPCs with just a single slap. This fighting system should not continue in the future. Rockstar should make some specific NPCs slightly more powerful than others so that they can give tough competition to the players. This feature could be one of the secrets in Grand Theft Auto 6.
In San Andreas, Rockstar allows players to learn new combat moves and use them as CJ’s skills improve. A similar feature should be brought back in Grand Theft Auto 6 with movements inspired by the Def Jam series.
Players will surely love this implementation as the upcoming game is also expected to have new ragdoll physics for melee combats. Rockstar should showcase them in the GTA 6 trailer 2.
