While Rockstar Games has already announced the GTA 6 release platforms, many fans still want the game on other devices, like the PC and Nintendo Switch. Grand Theft Auto games have always been among the most demanded titles on the Nintendo Switch, and the upcoming title is no expectation. Nintendo has also recently confirmed that it would release the "successor to Nintendo Switch" soon.

This has certainly fueled the GTA 6 demand on the handheld console. However, the game is seemingly too heavy for the platform. This article discusses why Rockstar Games should not release its upcoming project on the Nintendo Switch successor.

While the gaming community already had high expectations from the upcoming Rockstar Games title, the details of the game's first trailer set new standards for everyone. The graphics and physics of the gameplay look surreal, causing gamers to worry whether their consoles would be able to run the game. Surprisingly, even many PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X users expressed their doubts about the compatibility.

In that case, expecting the Nintendo Switch to run a massive game like this feels like a bold dream. Even though the upcoming iteration of the Switch could bring some new hardware improvements, that might not be enough for what Rockstar Games has integrated into Grand Theft Auto 6.

Even Digital Foundry in December 2023 stated that GTA 6 couldn't run on the Switch 2. Richard Leadbetter, Technology Editor of Digital Foundry, stated that Grand Theft Auto 6 is "out of league" for even the most powerful Nintendo platforms.

Gamers should keep in mind that the Nintendo Switch is designed for medium to low-scale video games that don't require too much hardware power. All of the titles released by Rockstar Games on the platform so far are of this nature. While the studio hasn’t released GTA 4, GTA 5, and RDR 2 on the handheld console yet, expecting a GTA 6 release for the Nintendo Switch consoles is a pipe dream.

If Rockstar Games decides to do so, the game should be scaled down heavily to be able to run on the Switch 2. Therefore, it is best for fans not to expect the upcoming AAA game on the Nintendo series consoles. Otherwise, players might have to settle down for a gameplay like Vice City on Nintendo Switch.
