The internet is filled with rumors about GTA 6, with the game's budget being a major part of the discussion. The upcoming Rockstar Games title is rumored to have a budget of a whopping $2 billion, which has the fanbase somewhat divided. Some believe that the game should be able to recoup the investment without much trouble, whereas others think the figure is just too much.

For instance, reacting to a post on X featuring the $2 billion budget rumor, user @BurstangelIn stated that there was no way GTA 6 could get its money back.

"There is no way on God's Green Earth this thing can possibly make its money back."

More such reactions to the rumored budget popped up on both X and Reddit as fans seemed to find the figure a little blown-up:

However, as already mentioned, some feel that the upcoming title would be able to rake in profits. Notably, a fan on Reddit, u/oisinomait, believes that it should be able to hit the figure in the first week.

This development budget rumor seems to have stemmed from the GTA 6 leaker, who uploaded around 90 clips of the unfinished game on the internet back in September 2022. They allegedly mentioned the $2 billion figure in a conversation with threat actors.

However, readers must note that Rockstar Games hasn't confirmed or stated anything about the actual GTA 6 development budget yet. So, it is best to take these rumors with a grain of salt.

That being said, not everyone in the Grand Theft Auto fanbase believes the rumored Grand Theft Auto 6 development budget. Even if the actual figure turns out to be anywhere around the rumored amount, Rockstar Games shouldn't face much trouble in recouping the investment.

It took just three days for Grand Theft Auto 5 to hit a billion dollars in sales. And given the hype around its sequel, it won't be surprising if it ends up breaking that record. However, one can only be sure once the GTA 6 release date arrives.

As it has done for previous releases, Rockstar is expected to drop a few more trailers, and possibly even screenshots, leading up to the Grand Theft Auto sequel's launch in Fall 2025. This will definitely help in building more excitement among die-hard fans of the franchise.
