GTA 4, Rockstar Games' 2008 release, is beloved among fans for different reasons, but its songs are not talked about as much as those of other Grand Theft Auto titles. That's a bit unfortunate since it has a pretty impressive soundtrack, much like other installments in the series, featuring songs from various genres of music across its multiple radio stations.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to have a great soundtrack as well, but we don't know much about it at the moment. As we wait for more information, let's take a look back at the five best radio songs in GTA 4.
Note: The entries and ranking are subjective and only reflect the writer's opinions. Some original songs that were removed in 2018 have also been featured in this list.
King Ring and 4 other best radio songs in GTA 4 as per fans
5) Strange Times
Strange Times is a rock song by an American duo known as The Black Keys. It was released in 2008, the same year as GTA 4, and the name itself is a pretty decent indicator of the game's events.
The guitar riffs and fast-paced drum beats go really well in the background if the song is playing in a high-octane sequence, such as a car chase. Those interested in listening to Strange Times in the game will have to tune into the station - Radio Broker.
4) Edge of Seventeen
Edge of Seventeen is a classic rock soundtrack. Stevie Nicks released it in 1981, several years before GTA 4, but it was still one of its top songs, even among the modern music from the late 2000s.
Its tempo is neither too fast nor too slow, and the vibe is adventurous, which could make it fit easily in any Grand Theft Auto title. Edge of Seventeen used to be aired on the in-game radio station Liberty Rock Radio before its removal in 2018.
3) King Ring
Seryoga's 2005 song King Ring is the next entry. It is quite popular among fans of the game, which is why it has been ranked third on this list. The fast-paced nature of the song made it a great pair for action-packed missions featuring intense driving.
In addition to being a radio station song (played on Vladivostok FM), King Ring was used in one of Grand Theft Auto 4's many trailers, and interestingly, was even in its end credits before getting removed in 2018.
2) Gruppa Krovi
The next song on this list is Gruppa Krovi by Kino. It was released back in 1988 and seems to be themed around war. Interestingly, GTA 4's protagonist, Niko Bellic, has a troubled past from being in a war (which is quite a big plot point in the game's storyline), making the song a good fit.
Therefore, apart from the music itself, it is this thematic similarity that renders Gruppa Krovi one of Grand Theft Auto 4's best songs. It used to be played on the Vladisvostok FM radio station, but it was also removed in 2018.
1) Flashing Lights
Flashing Lights is a song by popular American rapper, Kanye West, featuring Dwele. It came out a year before GTA 4's release, that is 2007, and luckily, is still present in the game at the moment.
The song is almost a perfect fit for a late 2000s Liberty City (primarily based on New York) setting and is very popular among fans, which is why it takes the top spot on this list. Those wondering about just where they can hear it in the game should tune into The Beat 102.7 radio station.
