While there are many great things about GTA 5, it, unfortunately, does lack a few interesting things from Rockstar Games' 2008 title - Grand Theft Auto 4. Among them are more pronounced vehicular damage effects, that many fans want to see make a return in the series' next installment—GTA 6. Redditor u/Emotional-Direction3 recently made a post on the popular online platform about the same, stating that it made driving more challenging and risky.
Here's what they said:
"It made driving more challenging & risky. The damage felt realistic and even though the vehicles may look wrecked, they still drove for a few more devastating crashes haha."
"IMO GTA IV had the best crash/destruction physics. Just hope R* smashes it outta the park!"
There were quite a few comments in agreement with this notion, such as u/Several-Anxiety9841, who wants more realism in the Grand Theft Auto franchise.
"Yes! We need some realism back into the Grand Theft Auto franchise!"
However, there are also some that are hoping for an improvement over Grand Theft Auto 4's vehicular destruction itself, as well as those who would, interestingly, like a combination of Grand Theft Auto 4 and 5's effects in GTA 6.
As of this writing, not much is known about the kind of vehicular damage players will get to see in the upcoming Grand Theft Auto title. The first GTA 6 trailer featured a shot of a wrecked car, but that was part of an in-game social media/news clip and doesn't really give an idea of what the sequel's vehicular damage will look like during actual gameplay.
Fans discuss the type of vehicular destruction they would like to see in GTA 6 while waiting for trailer 2
Vehicles are an integral part of the Grand Theft Auto franchise. While speed and handling mechanics are some important related aspects, implementing the right damage effects is also crucial. This is because having your car crash into something at a high speed, which is very common in Grand Theft Auto games, and exhibit just a few scratches or minor denting is immersion-breaking.
Although it doesn't take a massive toll on the gameplay, implementing it in a way similar to that in Grand Theft Auto 4 (or improving upon it as some fans want) could add a fun element to Grand Theft Auto 6's gameplay. Sadly, fans are still waiting for a proper look at the sequel's official gameplay mechanics and features.
GTA 6 trailer 2 might showcase these things, but its release date hasn't yet been confirmed by Rockstar. A recently released promotional image for Grand Theft Auto Online's pizza delivery missions has sparked rumors regarding more footage possibly releasing in October 2024, but that, needless to say, hasn't been officially confirmed.
