Why Rockstar should return to Liberty City after GTA 6

GTA 6 was leaked to take place in Vice City, which means gamers won't see Liberty City any time soon. Remember, Grand Theft Auto V took place in the state of San Andreas, and that game was the main single-player release from Rockstar Games for nearly a decade. GTA 6's Vice City setting will likely be similarly focused for another decade.

That means gamers probably won't see an updated Liberty City until the 2030s. Keep in mind that modern game development for Grand Theft Auto titles takes a very long time. It's been nearly a decade since the last single-player game, and GTA 6 wasn't even formally announced yet.

Note: Some aspects of this article are subjective.

Why it would be nice to see Liberty City again after GTA 6

There are some reasons to revisit this iconic setting past the likely chance that gamers won't get a new major single-player Grand Theft Auto game for about another decade after GTA 6 comes out. Examples include:

  • It's one of the main three locations: Liberty City, Vice City, and San Andreas have always been the prominent three locations since Grand Theft Auto 1.
  • Nostalgia: The last mainline title to feature this area was Grand Theft Auto IV, which was released back in 2008.
  • Variety: Players have seen enough of San Andreas's Los Santos for years now, and they will definitely get to see plenty of Vice City once GTA 6 launches. A new setting after those two locations would be appreciated several years from now.
  • Plenty of stuff can be done with this setting: Liberty City based on New York, making it easy to add new content based on real life if Rockstar was interested in doing so.

It might be hard to appreciate the location right now. After all, GTA 6 will revisit Vice City nearly two decades after it was last prominent in a mainline title. There's a ton of hype behind that, but once that dies down a few years from now, gamers will inevitably look toward the next area that a future Grand Theft Auto game could visit.

In that case, Liberty City would be a perfect place to revisit down the road.

What's currently known about GTA 6's location?

As alluded to earlier in this article, Rockstar's upcoming Grand Theft Auto title was leaked to take place in Vice City. Examples of proof found in some videos include the following:

  • Vice City Metro: This transportation method makes it quite clear where the game takes place, especially since the artwork for Vice City Metro was visible in one of the leaks.
  • Several locations from the original Vice City: Little Haiti, Malibu Club, Ocean View Hotel, and Washington Beach are all seen in the leaked events video.
  • Some Miami-inspired areas: Although videos cannot be hosted here, gamers can still easily find some on Dailymotion or Twitter to get an idea of this point.

Everything revealed in leaks is subject to change. Nonetheless, there's a good chance that Vice City will still be the main destination for the upcoming unnamed Grand Theft Auto title.
