Born on February 17, 1998, Adam Fox is an American professional ice hockey defenseman, serving as the alternate captain for the New York Rangers in the National Hockey League (NHL). The Calgary Flames selected him 66th overall in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. Calgary initially held Fox's NHL rights until June 2018, when they traded them to the Carolina Hurricanes. Eventually, in April 2019, the New York Rangers acquired his rights from the Hurricanes. Fox decided to leave college a year early, making his NHL debut for the Rangers in 2019. During his rookie season, he demonstrated his prowess by tying for second place among all NHL rookie defensemen in goals, ranking third in assists, and securing the third spot in overall points.

In 2021, Fox earned the prestigious James Norris Memorial Trophy for being the NHL's best defenseman, making him only the second player in NHL history, alongside Bobby Orr, to achieve this honor before completing their third NHL season.
