The NHL is one of the most prominent professional sports organizations in the United States and Canada. It is often recognized as the world's most renowned ice hockey league. The NHL is fifth in terms of revenue among professional sports leagues worldwide, behind the National Football League (NFL), Major League Baseball (MLB), the National Basketball Association (NBA), and the English Premier League (EPL). The National Hockey League (NHL) was founded at the Windsor Hotel in Montreal on November 26, 1917, following the dissolution of the National Hockey Association (NHA), founded in 1909 in Renfrew, Ontario.

The Stanley Cup is one of the "most important championships available to the sport," according to the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). The 32 NHL teams are divided into two conferences: the Eastern Conference, which has the Atlantic and Metropolitan Divisions, and the Western Conference, which has the Central and Pacific Divisions, each with eight teams. The NHL's regular season typically lasts from October to April, during which each team competes in 82 games. Following the regular season, 16 teams advance to the Stanley Cup playoffs, a four-round tournament that lasts until June and decides the league champion.

NHL 2024-2025 Season Summary

The 2024–25 NHL season marks the league's 108th overall season and the 107th season of play. The regular season kicked off on October 4, 2024, with the Buffalo Sabres facing the New Jersey Devils in the first of two games held in Prague, Czech Republic, as part of the 2024 NHL Global Series. The Stanley Cup playoffs are scheduled to begin in April 2025, with the Finals concluding in June. This season also introduces the league's newest team, the Utah Hockey Club, which was formed by acquiring the assets of the Arizona Coyotes after the latter's deactivation.

NHL Live Streaming

TNT, ESPN, and ABC will broadcast NHL games nationally, and ESPN+ will carry hundreds of out-of-market matches. Fans should examine which regional sports network (RSN), if any, is in charge of broadcasting the games of their preferred NHL team in their area.

Hockey fans require a subscription to one of the major live TV streaming providers in order to watch NHL games locally on your regional sports network online without cable. DIRECTV Stream is still the one that offers the most features. Following the removal of Bally Sports RSNs by YouTube TV, Hulu, and Sling TV, DIRECTV Stream Choice ($99.99) is the only live TV streaming provider that continues to provide games on Bally channels in addition to those broadcast nationally on ESPN and TNT.

After a five-day free trial, you can receive $10 off your first five months of DIRECTV Stream. MSG, NESN, Altitude, AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain, [AT&T SportsNet Pittsburgh], and ROOT Sports Northwest are also available on DIRECTV Stream.
