NHL fights never disappoint. Irrespective of the scoreline, players square up against each other, and fans are all for it.
Here's a look at the three best fights that happened in the NHL this week:
#3 Milan Lucic vs Kurtis MacDermid
The Colorado Avalanche squared off against the Calgary Flames last night, which ended in a 4-1 victory for the Aves.
With 3:36 left in the second period, the Aves were up 3-0 when Milan Lucic of the Flames and Kurtis MacDermid of the Avalanche were seen exchanging words and what looked like an invitation to brawl. The referees held them off initially but later on decided to let them go at each other.
The two men skated to the middle of the ice and squared up against each other. They tussled first with MacDermid trying to land some shots, but Lucic was strong enough to keep his opponent at bay.
Lucic landed a huge right hand blow and knocked the Aves defenseman to the ice. MacDermid left the ice bleeding from a cut on his face.
#2 Michael Pezzetta vs Austin Watson
Early into the second period, Canadiens forward Michael Pezzetta landed a huge blow on Senators' Erik Brannstrom. He then tossed his gloves away, as did Ottawa's Austin Watson.
Pezetta took a runup and clashed with Watson, who landed many blows to Pezzetta's midsection, with the latter failing to land any.
Pezzetta then lost his balance and fell. Watson said something to his opponent as he was still grasping onto him. Ottawa won the game 5-2.
#1 Anthony Mantha vs Jordan Martinook at 2023 NHL Stadium Series
The 2023 NHL Stadium Series was an amazing experience for fans at home and for those who were experiencing it live at the Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, North Carolina. Canes won 4-1.
With 6:25 left in the second period, the Caps were down 4-0 when Anthony Mantha grabbed Canes' Jordan Martinook by the collar and landed the first punch. Some fans called it a cheap shot on Mantha's part, as Martinook did not even have his gloves off.
After a bit of struggle, Martinook took his gloves off. The two went at each other with neither of them landing any devastating blows before Mantha's uppercut caught Martinook right in his face, making him fall to the ice. Many of the 56,961 NHL fans in attendance loved the physical battle on the ice.
