How does the NCAA Frozen Four work? Breaking down format pools and brackets.

While NCAA basketball has defined the month for college sports, for fans of hockey, the Frozen Four, which is set to begin at the end of the month, is March Madness.

The biggest tournament in college hockey will see 16 of the top NCAA hockey teams go toe-to-toe, hoping to be named the 2023 champions.

After completing their qualification rounds, the top 16 teams will compete in the Regional bracket from March 23-26 in four different US cities. The games will be held in Fargo (North Dakota), Manchester (New Hampshire), Allentown (Pennsylvania), and Bridgeport (Connecticut).

March 23 will have four games played between Manchester, New Hampshire, and Fargo, North Dakota. The opening game of the Frozen Four Regional bracket will see Boston University vs. Western Michigan at 2 pm ET, followed by defending champion Denver taking on Cornell. Both of the games mentioned above with be played at the SNHU Arena in Manchester.

The other games tomorrow will see St. Cloud State take on Minnesota State at 5 pm ET and Minnesota vs. Canisius at 9 pm ET. The games will be played at Scheers Arena in Fargo, North Dakota.

The winners of each game will play on Saturday, with the victor moving on to the final four, which will be played at Amalie Arena, home of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Frozen Four Regional bracket continues on Friday

On Friday the 24, the other half of the Regional bracket will continue at the Total Mortgage Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The opening game will see Harvard take on Ohio State at 2 pm ET, with the winner moving on to the Regional finals.

The second game of the Bridgeport bracket will see one of the favorites to win the tournament, Quinnipiac, take on Merrimack. The winner of this game will play the winner of Harvard and Ohio State on Saturday at 6 pm ET.

The other half of Friday's matchups will be played at the PPL Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania. At 5 pm ET on Friday, Penn State will play Michigan Tech, with Michigan battling Colgate playing at 8:30 pm ET.

Men’s Frozen Four schedule in Tampa, Florida

The semi-finals will be played on April 6. The Fargo Regional Champion will take on the Manchester Regional Champion (5 pm ET) and the Bridgeport Regional Champion will battle the Allentown Regional Champion (8 pm ET).

The National Championship will be played at 8 pm ET on Saturday, April 8, at Amalie Arena, home of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
