Jack Eichel is an American professional ice hockey center and alternate captain for the Vegas Golden Knights of the National Hockey League (NHL). Jack Eichel was born in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, on October 28, 1996. He began playing ice hockey at a young age and quickly rose through the ranks of youth hockey.
In 2012-13, he joined the USA Hockey National Team Development Program, where he played for two seasons. During his second season with the NTDP, Jack was named to the United States Hockey League Second All-Star Team.
After his time with the NTDP, Jack committed to play college hockey at Boston University. He had an outstanding freshman season in 2014-15, leading the Terriers in goals (26) and points (71). Jack was also named the Hockey East Player of the Year and earned the Hobey Baker Award as the nation's top college hockey player.
Jack then entered the 2015 NHL Draft and was selected second overall by the Buffalo Sabres, one pick after the Edmonton Oilers selected Connor McDavid. In 2021, Jack was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights and won the Stanley Cup with them in 2023.
Jack Eichel has also competed for the United States in several international events, such as the World Junior and World Championships. He took home bronze and silver medals at the 2013 IIHF World U18 Championships and the 2013 World U-17 Hockey Challenge.
Jack helped the USA team win the gold medal in the 2014 IIHF World U18 Championships the following year, and he represented Team USA as its youngest player at the 2014 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships at the age of 17.
In 2015, Jack competed for Team USA in the World Junior Ice Hockey Championship. Jack was selected to make his international debut with Team USA at the 2015 World Championships after his first season with the Terriers. Jack contributed 5 assists and scored 2 goals throughout the competition, including the game-winning goal against Slovakia in the group stage. Team USA took home bronze at the end of the 2015 World Championships.
Jack was chosen for the 2017 IIHF World Championship roster for Team USA. Jack hasn't competed for the US at an Olympic event yet. He was chosen for the US Olympic team for 2018; however, due to an injury, he was unable to play. Jack was selected to represent Team USA on April 19, 2019, at the 2019 IIHF World Championship, held in Bratislava and Kosice, Slovakia.
