Jack Johnson is an American professional ice hockey player. As of 2024, he is a defenseman for the Columbus Blue Jackets in the National Hockey League (NHL). In 2005, Jack was drafted third overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in the NHL Entry Draft. The Carolina Hurricanes wanted to sign Jack after his freshman season, but he decided to stay in college. Since the Hurricanes needed a defenseman to strengthen their team, they traded the rights of Jack to the Los Angeles Kings. Jack made his NHL debut with the Kings on March 29, 2007, and played in five games that season. In 2007-08, Johnson played his first full season in the NHL. He recorded 11 points (3 goals, 8 assists) in 74 games. Johnson spent the next five seasons with the Kings.

After spending two years with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program, Johnson was picked third overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2005 NHL Draft. He played one season at the University of Michigan before being traded to the Los Angeles Kings. After another year at Michigan, he signed his first pro contract with the Kings. In 2012, he was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets, where he played for five seasons. In 2018, he joined the Pittsburgh Penguins as a free agent but was bought out after two tough seasons. He then signed a one-year deal with the New York Rangers. He then played the 2021-22 season for the Colorado Avalanche and won the Stanley Cup with them. Johnson then signed a one-year free-agent deal with the Chicago Blackhawks before being traded back to the Avalanche. At the end of the 2023-24 season, Johnson signed a one-year $775,000 deal to return to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
