Connor McDavid became the youngest captain in NHL history at 19 years, 266 days old for the Edmonton Oilers, following in the footsteps of greats like Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier.

McDavid has 92 points from 41 goals and 51 assists and is on pace to have 150 points by the end of the 2022-23 NHL season. That's a feat not achieved by anyone since Pittsburgh Penguins forward Mario Lemieux had 161 (69 goals, 92 assists) in the 1995-96 season.

The only other players to have more than 150 points in a season in the NHL are Wayne Gretzky (nine times), Lemieux (four times), Steve Yzerman (1988-89), Phil Esposito (1970-71) and Bernie Nichols (1988-89).

The Edmonton Oilers have a 28-18-4 record and are fourth in the Pacific Division, with their captain leading the team in points, goals and assists. They will look to continue their blazing form when they visit the Detroit Red Wings at the Little Caesars Arena on Tuesday.

When asked about the possible history-making numbers he has been putting up, Connor McDavid said that his goals for this season are team-oriented and that he's not paying much attention to his individual accolades:

"To be honest, I'm not putting much thought into it.I'm just focused on the group and trying to help our team win. We have a lot of players doing special things, and our focus is on team success."

Connor McDavid has already won the Art Ross Trophy, awarded to the NHL's leading scorer, four times. He's also a two-time winner of the Hart Trophy, awarded to the league MVP.

Players from across the NHL and legends lauded Connor McDavid for his recent accomplishments. They're excited to see if the 26-year-old reaches 150 points by the end of the season.

Alex Ovechkin, captain of the Washington Capitals said:

"He's from a different planet."
"Probably his goal has to be 164, probably two points a game, I think that would be really impressive," said Montreal Canadiens' Nick Suzuki.

Mark Messier, a former Edmonton Oiler and Hall of Famer, said:

"These are the beginnings of the peak years of his career, and it's interesting to see if he can keep pushing his own limits. I mean, he's far surpassing most players that have ever played the game."

Paul Coffey, Hall of Fame defenseman and Oiler legend, said:

"In terms of a player, he's not even in his prime yet, which is pretty darn hard to believe; he's just going to get more mature and keep getting better."
