"He is the GOAT": NHL Twitter praises goalie John Gibson for tying 70-year-old NHL record with a third 50-save performance of the month

Heroics from goaltender John Gibson saved the day for the Anaheim Ducks as they beat the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 in Saturday night's NHL game (February 25). The 29-year-old goalie became the second player to record three 50-plus saves in the same month. The record was previously held by Gump Worsely, who did the same in 1963. After the seventy year record was broken, NHL Twiter came alive to celebrate Gibson's feat.

"Brilliance from Gibson, John Gibson becomes the second goaltender since shots on goal began to be tracked (1955-56) to record three 50-save performances in a single month!" the NHL tweeted.
"He was insane tonight vs the Canes. We normally stat pad goaltenders, but he legit deserved his stats. Made some incredible saves and single-handedly stole the game for the Ducks," Trav tweeted.
"If he was on any playoff team, they’d immediately be considered one of the main front runners for the cup. Wasting the rest of his prime in Anaheim 100%,"added another fan.

Here are more reactions online:

John Gibson started his career with the Ducks in 2013 and has played over 419 games with 410 starts so far in his career. He has conceded around 2.89 goals on average per game at a healthy save percentage of 0.918. He has a decent win rate, with almost a win in every second game he has started so far.

What's next for John Gibson and the Anaheim Ducks?

In the ongoing season, John Gibson has played over 40 games and has conceded around four goals per game on average while making 1400 saves in around 1550 shots saved. Meanwhile, the Anaheim Ducks have had one of their poorest seasons and are last in the Western Conference Atlantic Division.

They have been ineffective offensively and could only score close to 150 goals so far. All the positive efforts have only come from Trever Zagreb and Adam Henrique, with 38 goals between them. The team has severely lacked enough options up front. Their defense has sldo been poor overall, conceding more than four goals per game this season, severely damaging their season prospects.

Though their overall performances have been poor, they have shown a resurgence in the last few games, especially on the defensive front. With 50 points still up for grabs, the focus should shift towards earning maximum points by taking one game at a time.

They will play the Chicago Blackhawks next, who are in the form of their life and likely to make things difficult for the Ducks. It will be interesting to see how both teams approach this game in a bid to survive their season hopes this Monday, February 27.
