Is Jason Robertson Filipino? Looking at Dallas Stars' winger's maternal ethnicity

Jason Robertson is an American professional ice hockey player who currently plays as a left winger for the Dallas Stars of the NHL.

He was born on July 22, 1999, in Arcadia, California. However, there has been some confusion regarding his ethnicity, and many people wonder if he has any Filipino roots.

Yes, Jason Robertson has Filipino ethnicity on his mother's side. His mother is of Filipino-Scottish heritage, which makes Robertson a mixed-race individual. His mixed heritage has been an essential part of his identity and has helped him inspire other young players of mixed race to pursue ice hockey as a sport.

Robertson's family moved to Northville, Michigan, when he was ten years old, to provide him with better opportunities to pursue his passion for ice hockey. He played for various minor ice hockey teams in Michigan before being drafted by the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League in 2015.

In his first season with the Frontenacs, Robertson scored 18 goals, which were the most of any rookie since Anthony Stewart. He continued to impress in the following seasons, recording back-to-back 40-goal seasons, which made him the first Frontenac to achieve such a feat since Mike Zigomanis.

He was then traded to the Niagara IceDogs during the 2018-19 season, where he won both the Eddie Powers Memorial Trophy and the CHL Top Scorer Award after recording 117 points in 62 games.

In 2019, Robertson was selected by the Dallas Stars in the second round of the NHL Entry Draft. He spent most of the 2019-20 season with the team, before being included in Dallas's quarantine bubble for the 2020 Stanley Cup playoffs.

Although he did not play in the playoffs, Robertson made the Dallas Stars' opening night roster the following season, where he was a Calder Memorial Trophy runner-up with 17 goals and 28 assists in 51 games.

He continued his impressive performances in the 2021-22 season, becoming the first player in Dallas Stars history to record hat-tricks in consecutive games.
