The Vegas Golden Knights have officially acquired veteran goaltender Jonathan Quick from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for Michael Hutchinson and a 2025 seventh-round pick.
The hockey world was caught off guard when it was made known that the Los Angeles Kings had traded Quick to the Blue Jackets in exchange for defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov and goaltender Joonas Korpisalo, as well as a conditional first-round pick and a third-round pick in the 2023 and 2024 NHL Drafts.
According to Frank Seravalli of the Daily Faceoff, Jonathan Quick was upset with the Kings' decision to trade him because he wanted to play for the team for a few more seasons. However, this was not to be, as the decision was made prior to the Kings' game against the Winnipeg Jets.
Jonathan Quick is one of the best goaltenders in LA Kings history, but his performances have dipped in recent years, which could be attributed to his age. The decision to trade Quick was not widely supported by fans, but the move makes perfect sense for the Kings, who don't want to make any compromises heading into the playoffs.
Jonathan Quick has not performed well this season, and this played a major part in the trade. In 31 games, Quick has achieved a save percentage of .876 while conceding 3.5 goals per game. There has also been a considerable reduction in game time, with LA winning only 11 of his 27 starts.
Jonathan Quick was the 72nd overall pick in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft by the Los Angeles Kings. He spent 16 years with the Kings. During that time, he appeared in 743 games, going 370-275-82 with a 2.46 goals-against average and a.911 save percentage.
In his career, he has also won the coveted Stanley Cup twice. It will be interesting to see whether Quick can help the Golden Knights with his experience in the upcoming games.
