The Montreal Canadiens have signed 22-year-old defenseman Jordan Harris to a two-year, $2.8 million contract deal that will keep him with the team until the 2024-25 season.
Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes made the news on Friday. With his new two-year deal, the 22-year-old will earn $1.4 million annually.

Jordan Harris, 22, was the 71st overall third-round pick of the Montreal Canadiens in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. Jordan was still playing collegiate hockey with the Northeastern Huskies in NCAA Division 1 when he was picked by the Canadiens.
Jordan Harris has played 130 games and earned 73 points with the Huskies during his four-year NCAA hockey career. During his four-year span at the NCAA, the 22-year-old defenseman won the NCAA Hockey East Championship twice and was also named the NCAA Hockey East Best Defensive Defenseman.
Shortly after finishing his collegiate career, he was signed to a two-year entry-level contract by the Canadiens and made his NHL debut on April 2, 2022, in a 5-4 shootout win against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
In the current season, Jordan Harris has played 47 games and has accumulated 11 points on 1 goal and 10 assists and is the fourth-highest defenseman for the Canadiens in terms of points scored by the defenseman.
Now that the deal is locked, it will be interesting to see how the youngster performs with the fragile side of the Habs.
Montreal Canadiens this season so far
The Montreal Canadiens are having one of their worst seasons in league history. The team now sits at the bottom of the Atlantic Division with 44 points. This season, the team has the fourth-lowest goal differential in the league (-55).
At this point, the team's chances of making the playoffs are completely nil. Habs should be more active in the trade market, offload some of their players, and look for bright opportunities in the market to help them rebuild.
Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield are the only two players who have made the biggest contributions to the squad this season. Suzuki has scored 40 points this season, while Caufield is the team's second-leading scorer with 36 points.
The Montreal Canadiens will face the New York Islanders in their first game back from the All-Star break on Saturday, February 11th at Center Bell. The puck is scheduled to drop at 12:30 p.m. ET.
