The Edmonton Oilers suffered an embarrassing loss in a shootout against the New York Rangers after taking a 4-1 lead. On a night where everything seemed to go wrong for the Oilers, Connor McDavid reached the 100-point milestone for the sixth time in his career.

Edmonton Oilers' lose despite three-goal advantage
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored the first goal of the game, 7:52 into the first period. The goal gave Connor McDavid his 58th assist and 100th point of the season.
Tyson Barrie and Derek Ryan scored two quick goals, within 20 seconds of each, to give the Oilers a comfortable 3-0 lead.
Chris Kreider brought one back for the Rangers with his tip-in goal at the 13- minute mark.
Leon Draisaitl scored a fourth goal for the Oilers from another Connor McDavid assist, his second of the night, giving the Edmonton Oilers a 4-1 lead.
Chris Kreider scored his second goal of the game and reduced the Oilers' lead to two goals heading into the final period.
Alexis Lafreniere scored his ninth goal of the season to bring the Rangers one goal closer to potentially tie the game. Mika Zibanejad equalized for the Rangers in the 13th minute and equalized the score after being down 1-4.
The game headed into a shootout, with both teams scoring from their first shots. After a string of saves from Igor Shesterkin and Jack Campbell, Alexis Lafreniere scored the winning goal for the Rangers and completed their impressive comeback.
The Edmonton Oilers suffered their 19th loss of the 2022-23 season and are currently in fourth place in the NHL Pacific Division standings.
