The tragic collision involving the Humboldt Broncos junior ice hockey team shook the country and made headlines around the world.

It happened near Armley, Saskatchewan, Canada, on April 6, 2018. A northbound coach bus carrying members of the team crashed, resulting in 16 dead and 13 injured.

The incident prompted an outpouring of condolences and support from the public. Five years later, we remember the lives lost and honor the strength and resilience of the Humboldt community.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reflected on the anniversary, stating:

"We owe it to them to work to ensure a tragedy like this never happens again."

Despite the grief and loss felt by the Humboldt community, they have shown remarkable resilience in the aftermath of the tragedy. Trudeau noted:

"The Humboldt community is emblematic of what it means to be Canadian. They have shown enormous strength and resilience in the years since the tragedy."

The tragedy also sparked an outpouring across the country, with thousands of people registering to become organ donors. This was in honor of the Humboldt Broncos' Logan Boulet, whose donated organs helped six people. Trudeau remarked:

"In the face of great tragedy, we pulled together as Canadians, just like we always do, about 150,000 people across the country registered to become organ donors, inspired by Humboldt Bronco Logan Boulet, whose donated organs helped six people.”

2018 Humboldt Broncos bus crash

A collision occurred between the bus carrying 29 members of the Humboldt Broncos hockey team and a semi-trailer truck near Armley, Saskatchewan.

The truck driver, Jaskirat Singh Sidhu, failed to heed the stop sign at the intersection of Highways 35 and 335. His truck was blocking the intersection when the bus collided with it. Fourteen people died at the scene, and two others later succumbed to their injuries.

The truck driver was not injured in the crash. Emergency responses included the dispatch of three helicopters from the Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society to transport victims.

The incident drew condolences from dignitaries and politicians, as well as celebrities and public figures.
