Connor McDavid reached 100 points in the 2022-23 NHL season in just 56 games. He is the first player to reach this milestone this season and is his sixth-time achieving the 100-point mark in the regular season of the NHL.
McDavid secured his 100th point with an assist on Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' goal in the first period.
McDavid became the fourth player in NHL history to be the first 100-point player in at least five seasons, following in the footsteps of Wayne Gretzky (9x), Mario Lemieux (6x) and Phile Esposito (6x).
He matched the record for most 100 point seasons by an active player in the NHL, and is tied with Sidney Crosby, both having achieved this record six times. McDavid has done it in eight seasons, whereas Crosby has taken 18 seasons.
McDavid also became the sixth player in NHL history to record 100 or more points in at least six of his first eight seasons. The other five include: Wayne Gretzky (8 of 8), Mario Lemieux (7 of 8), Peter Stastny (7 of 8), Mike Bossy (6 of 8( and Dale Hawerchuk (6 or 8).
Prior to the 2019-20 NHL season being paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic, McDavid had 97 points in 64 games and was on pace for 113 points.
Connor McDavid is projected to hit the 150-point mark by the end of the season. If he does, he will become the first person to achieve this record in almost three decades. The last player to hit the 150-point mark was Mario Lemieux in the 1995-96 NHL season, when he scored 161 points in 70 games played in the regular season.
McDavid will join the coveted "150 club" which also houses the names of player like Wayne Gretzky(9x), Mario Lemieux(4x), Bernie Nicholls (1x), Steve Yzerman (1x) and Phil Esposito (1x).
