The Edmonton Oilers made it two wins in a row after defeating the Winnipeg Jets 6-3 at Rogers Place on Friday night. The Oilers' alternate captain Leon Draisaitl scored a brilliant goal in the opening three minutes to set the tone for the rest of the game.
The 27-year-old German center found the net from an impossible angle to squeeze the puck past the Jets' goalie.
Watch the goal below:
The Oilers continued dominating the game, scoring three more in the second period and effectively taking the game away from the Jets. Then in the eighth minute of the third period, Leon Draisaitl joined the party and scored another, giving his team a five-goal lead.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Kailer Yamamoto all scored twice for the Oilers. Though the Jets did score two more goals, the effort was not enough as they lost the game 6-3.
NHL Twitter and the Oilers' fans were left astounded by Draisaitl's strike. Here's how some of them reacted:
Leon Draisaitl's NHL career so far
Leon Draisaitl made his professional debut in the NHL with the Oilers during the 2014-15 season and has played over 600 games since then. Draisaitl has spent over 20 minutes on the ice on average per game and has scored 290 goals while assisting in 400 more.
Leon Draisaitl has helped the team win multiple games with his 52 game-winning goals and has a shooting percentage of over 17.2. He has also been involved in the game during power plays, playing over 220 penalty minutes in his career.
In 61 games of the current season, Draisaitl has 38 goals and 55 assists while averaging more than 22 minutes on the Ice. He has also been involved in nine game-winning goals and has been one of the best players in the league this season.
Edmonton Oilers 2022-23 season so far
The Edmonton Oilers have played well this season and are placed fourth in the Western Conference Pacific with 76 points, tied on points with third-placed Seattle Kraken. The Oilers have one of the best offenses in the league and have scored close to 240 goals in 32 games.
Connor McDavid has led from the front with 52 goals and 69 assists, and with the support coming from Leon Draisaitl, the Oilers' offense is unmatchable in the league. Though their defensive setup has been poor overall, it has provided better returns in the last few games and will likely complement the offense in the future.
Having won their last two games, the Oilers have momentum in hand and will try to win the next game to move second in the division. They are scheduled to travel to Winnipeg to face the Winnipeg Jets in a reverse fixture on March 4, 2023.
