Victor Hedman's early life and ice hockey career
Hedman first began his playing career as a goalkeeper when he was younger. Along with his buddies, including well-known iRacing driver Fredrik Sellgren, he also played street hockey.
Victor Hedman’s father promised to buy his son the new helmet he wanted if he left the net. Since then, he has not played a goal since.
Vicky remarked,
"Now I'm grateful for that. You can never be sure of an alternative outcome."
Hedman has two older brothers, Johan Hedman, who does not play professionally, and Oscar Hedman, who was a professional hockey player who played for Modo Hockey.
Hedman also loves football and flying, and he has eight hours under his belt on a Piper PA-32. According to his father, he would easily outrun everyone else on the field. Hedman continues to play soccer in the summer and is a devoted fan. He cheers for Manchester United in the Premier League.
Hedman established a hockey academy in his hometown in 2014. The school's openings were filled in under two hours. Hedman claimed that it was all worthwhile to "see the thrill in the kids' eyes".
Victor Hedman gave an explanation for why he chose the number 77 in a 2016 interview with The Hockey News. He frequently watched Colorado Avalanche games while growing up in Sweden because one of the team's top players at the time, Peter Forsberg, was Swedish.
