The NHL trade deadline (Friday, Mar. 3) is upon us, and it could be the quietest it has ever been.
With a ton of big names on the move already, it’s difficult to find big pieces who could move, but let’s give it a shot anyway
Ten players who could be on the move before NHL trade deadline
Here are the ten players:
#1 James van Riemsdyk
With Domi getting traded to the Dallas Stars, James van Riemsdyk will be the most sought-after forward on NHL trade deadline day. There will be multiple NHL teams in search of that final piece, and with JVR’s finishing talent, he could be that missing element.
#2 Cam Talbot
The most eligible goalie left. Now that the Senators are in the midst of the playoff race, there’s no guarantee that the Senators will sell Talbot. However, with Talbot on the last year of his deal, it would be a smart thing to do.
#3 Erik Karlsson
Maybe the most high profile defenseman left on the board. The Sharks will be demanding a pretty penny for him, but will the Penguins, Oilers, or another NHL team be desperate enough to make a drastic upgrade on the blue line?
#4 JT Miller
The contract is an albatross, which is why Miller is yet to be moved. There are still rumors about the Penguins making a big splash deal for Miller, but more than likely, there won’t be a team with the cap space to acquire him.
#5 Trevor van Reimsdyk
TVR could be an interesting name as the day wears on. The Caps d-man isn’t signed on next season, and a team looking to improve their last D line could use his skills.
#6 Dmitry Kulikov
Much in the same vein as TVR, Kulikov is a rather affordable third line defender option from the Anaheim Ducks, and could be a valuable piece for a contending team in ther NHL.
#7 Pius Suter
Will the Red Wings sell off early? Detroit acquired Suter from the Blackhawks two years ago, but it hasn’t paid like they’ve hoped it would. As a depth forward, Suter would be an impactful piece.
#8 Nick Ritchie
The Coyotes have been selling off pieces like Shayne Gostibehere, and Ritchie could be next. He could be an interesting depth piece on a contending team.
#9 Andreas Athanasiou
The Blackhawks have sold off nearly everyone on their team of value save one. Athanasiou is just a year removed from being one of the most sought-after deadline pieces. He could be a surprising name come the final clock on Friday.
#10 Troy Stetcher
Stetcher has improved this season with the Coyotes. If a team is looking for more depth in defensemen, he could be a low-risk option in the NHL.
