The Indy NXT series is the second-tier series of IndyCar racing. It is sanctioned by IndyCar and often considered the equivalent of Formula 2. Indy NXT racing has gained a lot of popularity in America’s open wheel racing scene. Indy NXT was previously known as the Indy Lights series since 2002. The series was acquired by Penske Corporation in 2022 and has been renamed as Indy NXT in 2023. The Indy NXT series is the proving ground for the upcoming Indy drivers. The top teams of IndyCar often run junior programmes in Indy NXT.
The Indy NXT series cars are powered by inline V4 engines compared to its senior series. However, the power of Indy NXT cars is limited to only 420 hp compared to the 600+ hp cars in IndyCar. Louis Foster is the reigning Indy NXT champion who won the 2024 Indy NXT championship with Andretti Global.
