The Indy NXT series is the junior series sanctioned by IndyCar. The Indy NXT series is known for its graduate rookies which often get a chance to run for IndyCar teams. The Indy NXT series, previously known as the Indy Lights series, is owned by the Penske Corporation, which is also the owner of the IndyCar series. The Indy NXT series features open-wheel racing similar to the IndyCar series. The cars used in Indy NXT are inline V4 engine powered and produce a maximum output of 450 hp.
The Indy NXT series was initially sanctioned by IndyCar in 2002 as the Infiniti Pro Series. It was later known as Indy Lights in 2008 and renamed to Indy NXT in 2023 by Penske Corporation. The Indy NXT series is the highest series in the road to Indy program. It guarantees the champion a chance to race in at least three IndyCar events, including the Indianapolis 500 race.
