Alex Palou won the 2024 IndyCar championship with Chip Ganassi to become a 3-time IndyCar champion. CGR has now come out on Instagram and teased its multi-billion-worth sponsor DHL’s decade-long tradition to continue with Palou's third title.
DHL is a logistics company that signed with CGR as a sponsor for the 2024 season. They are also a logistics partner for F1 and Formula E. It also became Manchester United’s logistics partner in 2011. When the Red Devil won the Barclays Premier League in 2012, DHL took the trophy on a World Tour and called it the ‘United Trophy Tour’. DHL continues its tradition and will now take Alex Palou’s trophy on a Trophy Tour.
Chip Ganassi uploaded an image about the Tour on Instagram in the form of a film poster. The poster had a picture of Alex Palou holding the championship trophy with the Map of the USA in the background and a DHL airplane flying over it. The poster read:
“One last victory lap for the three-time. TROPHY TOUR. DHL present a Chip Ganassi Racing production, an Alex Palou adventure. Starring Alex Palou with the Astor Cup. Visiting locations in Houston Texas, Tempe Arizona, Indianapolis Indiana and many more. Powered by DHL and Chip Ganassi Racing.”
The caption read:
“Coming to a feed near you… The @dhlus Trophy Tour”
DHL was Andretti's sponsor for 13 years. They joined the IndyCar team in 2011 and sponsored Ryan Hunter-Reay’s car till the 2021 season, and then Romain Grosjean for a couple of years. At the end of the 2023 season, DHL came across the opportunity to sponsor the then-two-time champion Palou and grabbed the opportunity. The very next year, Palou won the championship in the DHL livery car and became a three-time champion.
Chip Ganassi recalls how the DHL sponsorship came by for Alex Palou
Alex Palou became only the sixth driver in IndyCar history to win multiple championships in the series. The Spaniard’s achievement attracted DHL’s interest and the sponsorship with CGR was confirmed in December of 2023. DHL would sponsor the No. 10 Honda of the Spaniard in the iconic Red and Yellow livery.
Team owner Chip Ganassi recalled how the sponsorship came by and said, via Forbes:
Interestingly enough, we have a new salesperson on staff. He called me up one day, said, ‘Hey, I got a phone call from somebody that may be interested in sponsoring us. They're on another team currently. They were thinking about seeing if we had any availability.’ I said, ‘Sure, tell them we have availability. Who is it? Then he told me it was DHL.
“It's not often you get to partner with a massive brand like DHL. I think that about says it all. They're a massive international brand with a massive footprint. It's a real feather in our cap to have them on our team.”
DHL secured a multi-year deal with Chip Ganassi Racing and will be sponsoring Palou’s car for the foreseeable future.
