Logan Sargeant recently got his first taste of IndyCar in a private test at The Thermal Club. Sargeant, who was let go by Williams F1 team in the middle of the season this year, got behind the wheel of Meyer Shank Racing’s No. 06 Honda.

After a test run which included a few tire changes and changes to the car, the former F1 driver shared his experience of the single-seater. He said:

"It was fun for sure. It's relatively what I expected," Logan Sargeant said. "The car is bit of a unique way. It needs to be driven very different to what I've done in the past. So I feel like unravelling I would naturally to do to try to work with the car a little bit better. I mean, I think for a first couple of hours to learn the car wasn't too bad, but plenty to come." (1:18 onwards).

Interestingly, Sargeant posted the third quickest time at the end of the test and insisted that racecars in IndyCar weren't more about pushing but pushing 'the right way' and learning how to get the most out of what he's given. The 23-year-old deemed the process as 'always work in progress', claiming that by the end of the morning session, he felt more comfortable and headed in the right direction.

When asked about his experience with the Meyer Shank team, Logan Sargeant said:

"It's awesome, hanging out with all the guys and the girls in the team is really fun. It's a very different environment to what I'm used to. More relaxed, but professional at the same and I'm just happy to go racing," he said (2:30).

Replacing Logan Sargeant mid-season was in the best interest of Williams, as per James Vowles

Ahead of the Italian GP in September, Logan Sargeant was dropped by the Williams F1 team in favor of Franco Colapinto. In the 2024 season, Sargeant failed to finish inside points even once and his 10th-place finish at COTA in 2023 remained his best result.

Speaking about parting ways with Logan Sargeant, Williams boss James Vowles said (via ESPN):

"To replace a driver midseason is not a decision we have taken lightly, but we believe this gives Williams the best chance to compete for points over the remainder of the season. We have just brought a large upgrade to the car and need to maximise every points-scoring opportunity in a remarkably tight midfield battle."

Vowles added that Williams have chosen to invest in their young academy drivers, with Colapinto being 'a fantastic opportunity' to showcase his and the academy's prowess in the remaining races of the season. Having said that, Vowles acknowledged the nature of this decision on Logan Sargeant, saying it'd be 'incredibly tough' on the American driver.

The Williams Team Principal thanked Sargeant for his hard work and positive attitude, insisting that he remains a talented driver who would always have the organization's support.
