17:40 PM IST: That is all from our end in this live coverage of the Women's Ashes. This is Samanvaya Sharma signing off on behalf of Sourabh Agrawal as we take your leave now. See you soon.
Heather Knight:"It was a fantastic game of cricket. Although we managed to build a crucial partnership towards the end, it was unfortunate that it didn't quite yield the desired result. Chasing 180 was always going to be a tough ask, but I'm proud of the way the team fought till the very end. There were several positives to take away from today's game, and we'll definitely be carrying that confidence forward. The girls showed great resilience and determination, and I'm incredibly proud of their efforts."
Tahlia McGrath (Player Of The Match & Australia Women Captain): Feels pretty nice. My heart rate has just settled down, it was pretty tense out there. Constatnly looking at the DLS, looking at the radar. Team performance over all. Grace was outstanding at the backend, the bowlers did a brilliant job as well. I'm exhausted, doing all the calculations and talking to a couple of players, glad it is over. Really pleased to win the Ashes, to do it this early as well, we have a long way to go still though.
17:26 PM IST|| Match Summary: Australia Women won by 6 runs (DLS Method).
Wyatt Hodge 52(40) | Tahila McGrath 48*(35) Megan Schutt 2/32 | Charlie dean 2/28
England Women won the toss and elected to bowl first at the Manuka Oval in Canberra, hoping to restrict Australia Women's batting lineup. However, Beth Mooney had other plans, unleashing a blistering start that caught the English bowlers off guard.
Despite Mooney's early onslaught, Australia Women lost wickets in the middle overs, which slowed their scoring rate. However, skipper Tahila McGrath and Grace Harris combined to propel Australia to a formidable total of 185. Their partnership was instrumental in helping Australian women recover from the mid-innings slump and post a competitive total.
In response, England Women's Maia Bouchier and Danni Wyatt made a solid start, navigating the Australian bowling attack with caution. However, Bouchier's untimely dismissal just before the powerplay ended halted their momentum. She fell victim to a bizarre caught-and-bowled dismissal, which left England Women at 48/1.
Sophia Dunkley and Wyatt attempted to rebuild, but rain interrupted play in the 8th over, forcing the teams to take shelter. After the resumption, Dunkley reached her 50, but Megan Schutt's double strike in the same over, including Dunkley's wicket, swung the contest back in Australia's favor.
Heather Knight and Nat Sciver-Brunt tried to revive England's chase, but the required run rate continued to climb. With 22 runs needed from the last 6 deliveries, rain intervened again, and the match was decided via the DLS method.
Australia Women emerged victorious by 6 runs, marking another win in the Women's Ashes series. Megan Schutt's impressive bowling, claiming 2 crucial wickets, played a significant role in Australia Women's triumph. The win showcased Australia's resilience and ability to adapt to challenging situations, highlighting their strength as a team.
17:24 PM IST: So both team captains are shaking their hands after that short word with the umpire. The rain has become heavier now and due to this Australia Women has won this game by DLS.
17:19 PM IST: Players are making their way out after Aussie skipper Mcgrath had a word with the umpire about the rain getting heavier.
19.1 Annabel Sutherland to Heather Knight, FOUR, short of a length at the stumps, Knight makes room and cuts that between point and third man perfectly, starts the over with a boundary, 18 needed off 5 now. All of a sudden, the rain has started to fall and it is pretty heavy. McGrath has a chat with the umpire and they are calling the players off. Knight is frustrated and throws her bat away in anguish.
The rain is pretty heavy this time and this is such a shame as we might not get any play any more.
