08:12 PM local time, 05:42 PM IST: So we have the final update and it's a dampener after all the wait. The match has been abandoned due to wet outfield conditions. The journey of the Toronto Nationals comes to an end as they finished 4th in the points table. Bangla Tigers Mississauga go through to the second qualifier against the Brampton Wolves which will be played tomorrow. The organisers and the groundsmen tried their best to constitute a game but in the end it wasn't to be. It was that kind of a day but you can't really question the groundsmen after the massive downpour earlier in the day. It's time for me (Arya Sekhar Chakraborty) to bid adieu on the behalf of my fellow commentator Darpan Tikiya.
7:57 PM local time, 05:27 IST: No update folks. The official update from the broadcaster still says Match delayed due to outfield. Until we get an official word we can't really tell anything. It has been that kind of a day. Please bear with us as we try and bring you some positive update pretty soon.
7:30 PM local time, 5:00 AM IST: Once again, the match is delayed. The "wet outfield" is being cited as the reason. There is no official word on the toss either. We are as confused and annoyed as you are.
The match would begin at 7:30pm local time. It will be a one over affair. STRANGE? Yes. But that is the official word. Since the outfield was not deemed suitable enough to have a match, we will have a super over to decide the winner.
7:05 PM local time, 04:35 AM IST: Toss coming up in 5 minutes. After a long wait, we finally have an official word. The toss was originally supposed to happen about three-and-a-half-hour-ago. It was delayed as the heavy rain had left some damp patches on the field. They were covered with saw dust but were still deemed dangerous by the umpires. Hence, we had such a long delay. The lack of communication from the officials has been a test of everyone's patience. But it looks like we are finally going to have a truncated game.
6:48 PM local time, 04:18 AM IST: No official word yet. The officials are still concerned about those wet patches we have been talking about. There has been no rain for well over two hours now. The players have been on the park for a while doing warm up drills. Yet, we have no clue about the toss.
6:18 PM local time, 03:48 AM IST: The umpires are having a chat with the two captains Shakib Al Hasan and Colin Munro. They are in their match gears but doesn't look like we have come to a conclusion here. The two captains now having a chat with each other as they inspect the outfield. Hopefully we will get positive news soon.
5:57 PM local time, 3:27 AM IST: The umpires are once again out on the park to inspect the wet patches. We shall have an official update soon. Keeping our fingers crossed.
05:42 PM local time, 03:12 AM IST: So the wait continues. Nothing new to report to be honest. The overhead conditions look promising but the outfield still remains a concern. The umpires walked through the outfield and weren't satisfied yet. We are keeping our fingers crossed. Hopefully we get underway pretty soon but until then please bare with us as we try and bring you some positive updates next time around.
Naimur: "Shakib seems confident and is ready for the clash" - So does everyone else too, Naimur. But alas, we have no official word on the start time yet.
Vincho: "H Zazai will be the best player today" - Interesting! Remember, you can send in your comments too by clicking on the "comment" button at the top of this feed on the Sportskeeda website.
5:06 PM local time, 2:36 am IST: There is a strong breeze blowing across the ground. The skies look clear and the players seem keen to play too. The concern is the outfield, which has some damp patches. The ones that are closer to the 30-yard circle are covered in saw dust. The umpires are inspecting the field, but their reactions don't look very positive. For now, we do not have an official word.
Vincho: "Rooting for Bangla Tigers to go all the way" - Who do you think is going to be the key player today, Vincho?
4:50 PM local time, 2:20 AM IST: The skies look clear now. The warm up routine is underway. Even though, there is no official word, it seems the toss could be coming up at any point now.
4:32 PM local time, 2:03 AM IST: The players can now be seen on the park. They are performing their warm up drills. A start is not far.
4:02 PM local time, 1:32 AM IST - The sun is constantly playing hide and seek. Though, there is no rain. The groundsmen are busy preparing the field and a couple of members from either sides can be seen standing close to the pitch and inspecting it. There seems to be a huge wet patch just outside the 30-yard circle at mid-on. It is currently covered with saw dust. That particular patch is perhaps the root cause of the delay.
3:52 PM local time, 01:22 AM IST- Encouraging live visuals out there. It looks sunny and no covers in place which is indeed a positive sign. However the toss still remains delayed due to wet outfield conditions. We will keep you updated with the toss time and eventual match time whenever we get an information.
3:40 PM local time, 01:10 AM IST: So news from the ground is that the toss is delayed due to wet outfield conditions. As we mentioned in our preview, the outfield has been drenched in rain and the groundsmen have to do something really special here. However we have so much time on hand. Hopefully there will be a positive update next time around. The good news is it isn't raining at Brampton Ontario and hasn't rained for a while.
Hello and Welcome to Sportskeeda's coverage for the eliminator clash of the Global T20 Canada slated to be played between the Bangla Tigers Mississauga and the Toronto Nationals. The first match of the day was washed out due to persistent rain which means the Montreal Tigers have booked their place in the final. It looked pretty sunny a little little while ago but the outfield has received a lot of rain in the last few days so fingers crossed we will have a game going. In the commentary box today for this encounter will be the pair of Arya Sekhar Chakraborty and Darpan Tikiya who will take us through everything that transpires during the course of the contest. Hopefully toss update and team sheets coming up soon. Before heading into the game, switch 👇🏽 to give a read to the brief preview for the encounter to get a fair idea on how these two teams have performed in the competition so far.
For the Toronto Nationals, it wasn't an easy pathway to the playoffs. They finished as the fourth placed side in the group stage with three wins and equal number of losses while one match was rained off. They were thrashed by the Montreal Tigers in their previous game getting bowled out for just 52 runs. The batting department has to raise their hand and do the job on a relatively difficult wicket for the batters. With so much moisture having gone into the surface from the covers, things will continue to be spicy once the game starts.
Colin Munro and Unmukt Chand have to start performing at the top of the order while the likes of Nicholas Kirton, Roston Chase and Mohammad Nawaz have to step up and score some valuable runs for their team. The target if they are batting first has to be accessed early and the proceedings should go on accordingly. The bowling department doesn't boast of too many superstars. Jason Behrendorff is one of the most experienced bowlers in their side and have to get early wickets if the Nationals are to upstage the Bangla Tigers.
Meanwhile the Bangla Tigers Mississauga have had an indifferent season but managed to stitch together four wins besides losing three. Their previous match against the Brampton Wolves was abandoned due to rain. They defeated the Surrey Jaguars in a low scoring thriller while went down like a pack of cards against the Wolves in their opening encounter. It clearly suggests that the consistency quotient has been missing. However they have the squad to turn it around on the big stage.
Muhammad Waseem and Rahmanullah Gurbaz will hold the key at the top of the order. They have to curb their natural instincts and only go after deliveries which are in their half. Shakib Al Hasan, Curtis Campher and Iftikhar Ahmed all have the ability to put any attack to the sword. The batting department hasn't fired all cylinders so far but can they turn it around today? Shoriful Islam and David Wiese has been brilliant with the ball. Wiese has been a savior for the Bangla Tigers both with bat and ball on several occasions
