Saqib Mahmood: Everything was coming together. We started with hard lengths, and get the ball swinging. We [the English guys] were having a chat this morning. I joined the team this Monday itself and settled in well
Saqib Mahmood has been named as the 'Man of the Match' for taking four wickets
A sizeable 53-run victory for Sydney Thunder in the end. They dominated the game from start to finish. Chasing a massive 197-run target, Brisbane Heat came out attacking. However, BBL debutant Saqib Mahmood gave the perfect start to Thunder as he removed Chris Lynn and Ben Duckett in the very next over. The third over saw Heat lose half their side as Max Bryant's run-out was surrounded by Sam Heazlett and James Peirson's wickets.
Just when Heat were struggling at 15-5, Tom Cooper counter-attacked with a flurry of big shots. The Queensland-based side looked to targeting the Bash Boost point but Chris Green put an end to those hopes by dismissing Cooper in the eighth over. A couple of deliveries later, Tanveer Sangha also got into the action as holed out to deep mid-wicket. From there on, the lower-order duo of Mark Steketee and Xavier Bartlett entertained the Gabba crowd with a superb partnership. They came together to put on a 79-run stand off just 53 balls. The partnership was only broken in the 17th over as Steketee miscued a short ball off Daniel Sams' bowling. The match finished quickly as the young leggie Tanveer Sangha sent Mitchell Swepson and Mujeeb Ur Rehman off back-to-back deliveries
17.3 Tanveer Sangha to Mujeeb Ur Rehman, OUT! Mujeeb goes first ball! And it's a comprehensive victory for Thunder! Mujeeb attempts a reverse hit. Doesn't make contact and gets pinned right in front of the stumps
Mujeeb Ur Rahman lbw Tanveer Sangha 0 (1b)
Mujeeb Ur Rehman, right-handed batsman, is into the middle
17.2 Tanveer Sangha to Mitchell Swepson, OUT! Sangha gets his man! It's a flatter one on a length. Swepson misjudges the length and tries to pull. The ball zips off the surface and rattles the stumps
Mitchell Swepson b Tanveer Sangha 4 (2b 4*1)
17.1 Tanveer Sangha to Mitchell Swepson, FOUR! Goodness me! Floats it right up to the batter. Swepson makes room and lofts it over covers. Brilliant shot from the leggie
Finally a wicket for Sydney Thunder there. Five runs and a breakthrough from Daniel Sams
