The Super Kings began the defence of their chase with an extremely shoddy bit of showing on the field - any chance that came down from the heavens was grassed promptly. They did account for Zeeshan Kukikhel in the first over, but that paved way for absolute carnage as Zahir Safi and Usman Muhammad got in on the act, clearing the boundaries at will and keeping the Zalmi well within the hunt.

The Zalmi were going along at 14 an over when they lost Zahir Safi at the end of the sixth, thanks to a sharp catch from Muhammad Ahmed. Usman Muhammad was cleaned up the next over, and the tide began turning thereafter. The required rate began climbing gradually as the Zalmi lost wickets in a heap.

Ali Shabaz and Kokikhil Izharullah made a belated attempt at it - 22 came off the penultimate over, and with 25 needed off the last over, the Zalmi still had a lot of momentum. Shabaz struck a few over the ropes, kept the Zalmi's hopes hanging by a thread going into the last ball, but couldn't middle the last ball - a six would have taken it to a Golden Ball.
