Few fortresses look as pleasing as it does in yellow when the Chennai Super Kings are playing at the Chepauk. Another utter domination from the yellow army in their own den as Kolkata Knight Riders tasted their first defeat of the season. The surface behaved quite strangely to what it was said in the pitch report or what most of us thought. The dew made the toss a decisive factor but you need to play well to win a game and they did exactly that. Nothing much to think for KKR as you cannot win all the matches. They have to continue the process and do the things which has yielded three positive results for them. Like always, it was a pleasure bringing the live coverage from this encounter. The IPL carnival continues with the Punjab Kings slated to square off against the Sunrisers Hyderabad tomorrow. Ravindra Jadeja (Player of the Match): Thank you I didn't know that (on becoming the first IPL player to score 1000 runs, take 100 wickets and 100 catches). Hopefully they give me verification. Whenever I play in Chennai I enjoy my bowling. No I was hoping with the seam up, the ball grips a little bit. I tried to bowl in right areas and if you bowl in the right areas you were bound to get success. For visiting teams it will take time for them to settle down. To come here and play and identify the surface is a little bit difficult. We know the conditions much better than the other team

Ruturaj Gaikwad (Chennai Super Kings captain): Little bit of nostalgia for me. My first IPL fifty, Mahi bhai was me and today it happened again. The wicket was little tricky but didn't want the youngsters to put under pressure. It was a 150 160 wicket. Didn't thought it was a six hitting pitch though. I think it is what we have been following. Jaddu always comes in the powerplay and gives momentum. To be honest with this team I don't really need to tell anything in the bowling or the fielding department. Everyone is in a good headspace and Mahi bhai and Fleming are there. It wasn't a slow start. In T20 there can be times when you can nick off. Today it was perfect where I could have taken my time a bit.

Daryl Mitchell (Chennai Super Kings): It's always nice to come here and play against the awesome crowd and to get the win, it's pretty cool. When you see the surface was on the slower side, the plan was to build partnerships, we needed to take it as deep as we can. (About Sunil Narine) He's world class bowler, done it for a long time, for me coming out with plans, kept trying to put pressure back on them and Rutu out there, managed the whole innings and got the job done was awesome to see. There was obviously there was turn and bounce, made it difficult for both the sides, we needed partnerships, try to take it deep as we could, allow ourselves to be in a position for the guys to finish the job. (on Rahane's injury and him coming to bat at number 3) Look I don't mind wherever I bat, I'm just here help us try to win games and nice to get the job done.

Shreyas Iyer (Kolkata Knight Riders captain): First off, It's deafening out here. I personally feel, we didn't assess it well, phenomenal start but couldn't capitalise and lost the way in the end, it wasn't easy scoring runs on this wicket. They know the conditions pretty well, bowled according to the plan, it was a bit tacky, it wasn't easy for the batters to go from ball one. It changed tremendously after powerplay, but our plans couldn't go according to it. The wicket changed after powerplay, from the start we got, we thought 160 or 170 would've been good and even when they played against RCB, it was similar conditions but when you lose your way, it's difficult to come back. We have to go back to drawing board and see where we went wrong, it's a great learning and we will introspect to come back hard. We know our home conditions better than anyone, we need to stick to our plans, analyse and make the best use of it.

It turned out to be a rather straightforward run chase for the Chennai Super Kings as they continued their dominance in their home ground, beating the Kolkata Knight Riders by 7 wickets and with 14 deliveries to spare. Ruturaj Gaikwad played a captain's knock and was supported very well by Daryl Mitchell and Shivam Dube. The Kolkata Knight Riders needed the opening bowlers to strike early. After a good opening over from Mitchell Starc, he again lost his way and was taken for 15 runs by Rachin Ravindra in his second over.

He tried to continue in the flamboyant manner as he has done this season but perished at the hands of Vaibhav Arora. Out came Daryl Mitchell and steadied the ship with his skipper. Gaikwad looked in phenomenal touch and played three delightful shots in the opening over of Anukul Roy to make it look very comfortable. The dew came into the equation and the turn was reduced by a significant degree in the second innings.

The wicket behaved much better during the run chase and the spinners didn't manage to grip the ball perfectly. Sunil Narine was belted in his first over by Mitchell but it was Gaikwad who kept finding the gaps on a consistent basis. Varun Chakravarthy bowled well but couldn't quite break the partnership. When Narine managed to breach through the defence of Mitchell, the match was very much on CSK's plate.

Shivam Dube came out all guns blazing and belted three sixes en route to a knock of 28 off 18 deliveries. It was clean hitting from the powerful left-hander but just when he tried to finish it off with a massive blow, he was castled by Vaibhav Arora with CSK just three runs away from victory. Out came MS Dhoni to send the crowd into delirium but he gave Ruturaj the opportunity to hit the winning runs.

Ruturaj Gaikwad finishes it off in style and it was as if Dhoni wanted the young man to hit the winning runs for how he played all through the innings. He anchored it beautifully and found the boundaries at crucial moments of the game which never really allowed the KKR bowlers to claw their way back in the game. A masterful knock and ably supported by Mitchell and Shivam Dube. MS Dhoni putting a smile on the face of every supported by coming out to bat and knocking it around for a single. Another victory for the Chennai Super Kings at home. It's the first taste of defeat for KKR this season.

17.4 Anukul Roy to Ruturaj Gaikwad, FOUR! THAT IS THAT! CSK thump KKR and the home record is intact for CSK. Gaikwad fittingly hits the winning runs as they finish a convincing win. Short outside the off-stump, Gaikwad gave himself some room and slaps it in the gap, through covers and finds the ropes to seal the deal.

17.3 Anukul Roy to MS Dhoni, slides the length delivery on the stumps, Dhoni works it in front of square for a single. Scores are level now!

17.1 Anukul Roy to Ruturaj Gaikwad, drops it short outside the off-stump. Gaikwad waits and steers it through covers for one, brings Dhoni back on strike and the crowd are on their feet again.

A good over from Vaibhav Arora but the result has now become a foregone conclusion. Shivam Dube smashed a gigantic six before losing his stumps but it was his dismissal which brought out the biggest as MS Dhoni came out to bat. Dhoni just repaying the faith of his fans.

16.4 Vaibhav Arora to Shivam Dube, SIX! KABOOM! That is a monstrous hit from Dube, that is outta here. Back of a length on the stumps, Dube backed away and deposits this one 10 rows back over deep mid-wicket for a humongous strike.
