So this will be all from Sylhet for this season of the BPL, and what a game it was to end things over there! We will be back with more live action from this league on Friday, as the cricket goes back to Dhaka. Till then, this is Bidipto, saying good bye. Keep following Sportskeeda!
Imrul Kayes, Comilla Victorians captain: It was a great game for us and a huge victory for sure! Litton Das of course is an important batter, so losing him early due to injury was not nice, but we hung in there, Rizwan played well, held the innings together, played clever cricket and allowed Johnson Charles to flow into his innings. The chase was just perfect and I cannot thank Charles enough for providing such a superb knock!
Johnson Charles is the Player of the Match!
Here is what he has to say: The plan was to go out and play a few deliveries, get the eye in, and launch after that. The ball was getting middled pretty well and I did not stop at any stage. That was the key tonight I guess, to keep the hitting going.
Shai Hope, Khulna Tigers captain: Did not think I would be here in this fashion to be honest, but of course, Johnson Charles and also Mohammad Rizwan, played incredibly! (On whether he should have continued with Nasum Ahmed to bowl his fourth over) Hindsight is the best sight, and to be honest, not a lot could be done out there, with what was going on, credit has to go to the batters for batting so, so well! Congratulations to Johnson Charles again for batting the way he did and taking the match away from us.
Comilla Victorians - 213/3, beat Khulna Tigers - 210/2, by 7 wickets with 10 balls to spare.
Johnson Charles 107* (56) | Naseem Shah - 1/34 Tamim Iqbal 95 (61) | Nasum Ahmed - 1/19
Comilla Victorians have notched up the highest run chase in the history of the Bangladesh Premier League tonight and have given the Sylhet fans a lot to cheer about in the last game of the season, in this city!
The batting from Comilla started rather shakily, with Litton Das getting hit on the right hand and having to go off the field. Imrul Kayes came out to bat with intent but also went cheaply. At that stage, it looked a bridge too long to cross for the batting side.
But then, the partnership of well over 100 between Mohammad Rizwan, who was really intelligent with his stroke-play, and Johnson Charles, whose belligerence stole the breath away from the Khulna bowling, provided the correct pace and assurance to the innings that Comilla were looking for.
Both brought up their half-centuries, Rizwan went to a blinder of a catch from opposition skipper Shai Hope, but Johnson Charles continued in his merry way, striking them as clean as a whistle and clearing the fences with consummate ease!
Khushdil Shah supported Charles well and on a good batting pitch, the Comilla effort in this, the second innings, made a bit of a mockery of the Khulna bowling.
With this win, Comilla Victorians become the third team to make the playoffs but Khulna Tigers may well be on the verge of getting knocked out from a chance to make the top four.
18.2 Mark Deyal to Johnson Charles, SIX RUNS! AND BEFITTINGLY, JOHNSON CHARLES HITS THE WINNING RUNS! Good length ball on middle, Charles goes down on one knee, brings out the big hoick off the straight bat over wide long-on, and gets it deep into the stands to finish the match! COMILLA VICTORIANS MAKE THE PLAYOFFS NOW!
18.1 Mark Deyal to Johnson Charles, over the wicket, good length flatter ball on middle, tapped back from the crease to the bowler, for no run.
