Commentary

So we have come to the end of a one sided contest with the Durban Super Giants winning it quite comfortably by 37 runs. Heinrich Klaasen was the difference between the two teams and the Player of the Match Award was just a testimony to how well he has played. He has been well ahead of any other batter in the country. We will come back tomorrow for another encounter featuring the MI Cape Town and the Sunrisers Eastern Cape. Heinrich Klaasen is the Player of the Match, he is what he had to say: Yeah the wicket was up and down so I had to go a bit old school. Yeah it was a tough wicket and had to bid my time. I think different ways of getting eight runs an over. Have to be very fit in taking those extra runs. Have to be patient and then target one more. You have to make sure to execute against that bowler. The hard work I have putting in before the tournament. The mental aspect seems to be boding well and I am keeping my feet to the ground which seems to be helping.

Keshav Maharaj (Durban Super Giants captain): (On deciding whether to bat or bowl first after winning the toss) It was bit of a catch twenty two, the wicket was dry and we needed to take the advantage and Klaasen helped us post decent total. If you looked at the teams last season, exceptionally done well at home and teams made their home ground their fortress, we are focusing on that. To be honest, 140 was a good score we thought at the half-way, but we kept taking the wickets always and made it tough, bowlers were exceptional and stood up when it was needed. We knew with the nature of the wicket, it could happen very quickly, the boys were calm and relaxed, went through the process. We've been working really hard, it's nice to see the result. Exciting, just need to keep the momentum on and control the controllable.

Faf du Plessis (Joburg Super Kings captain): (About the pitch)I don't think it was any disadvantage, average wicket for both innings' and take example, Heinrich Klaasen who batted brilliantly and if you take him out, there's not much from the rest of the batters. It felt like 140 was par, obviously proving not to the case to be and when we were going back, we thought a good start would do, learn from their mistakes in the first six by not losing too many wickets. If you bowl well to a plan, it was difficult to get boundaries. Generally in these situations, you need one game and with one of them playing well, the confidence can run through the rest of the team and the momentum can turn things around. It's important just to make sure to keep working on things on getting better, look at the areas and see what you can do, own process is important and we always need to look ahead and it's all about inducing confidence in the group.

The score of 145 proved to be enough in the end as the Durban Super Giants bowlers put up a superb show and restricted the Jo'burg Super Kings to just in their allotted 20 overs. There was no point of return for the Super Kings ever since the introduction of Keshav Maharaj as they kept sliding down the barrel. The target of 146 wasn't a big one under any stress of imagination and when Reeza Hendricks started taking the attack to the bowlers in the powerplay, it looked like a straightforward chase for them. Keshav Maharaj brought himself into the attack in the final powerplay over and turned the game on its head.

He spun the ball viciously past Faf du Plessis and rattled his stumps. It got difficult from there on and despite a good start from Hendricks, he didn't get enough strikes in the next four or five overs which eventually led to his downfall. Herrmann and Leus du Plooy had a tough time in the middle before giving their wickets away pretty cheaply. Moeen Ali came out in the middle at the fall of du Plooy's wicket but couldn't quite provide the impetus which they needed at that stage.

Hendricks who was deprived strike eventually sliced a good-length delivery straight down the throat of the sweeper cover fielder. Keshav Maharaj and JJ Smuts did a terrific job and both conceded runs at less than run a ball. Donavan Ferriera and Romario Shepherd's vigil in the middle was short-lived lived and it reached a position of no return for the Super Kings. Moeen Ali struck a couple of lusty blows in the penultimate over but it was always going to be an impossible task with 40 required in the last 8 deliveries.

Reece Topley finished the match off in style with three wickets in the final over as the Super Giants continued their brilliance in the SA20. They have risen to the top of the points table with 12 points in three games. For the Super Giants, Reece Topley bagged three while Richard Gleeson and Keshav Maharaj chipped in with a couple each. Hendricks was the top scorer for the Super Kings, scoring 38 off 32 deliveries.

A brilliant way to end the match as far as the Durban Super Giants are concerned. They are still undefeated with three wins in three. Heinrich Klaasen was the master at work with the bat and helped them post a competitive 145 and the bowlers ensured that it was more than enough in the end. A comfortable 37-run victory and they also bag a bonus point. The Super Kings have a lot to ponder upon and need to address them pretty soon. Early days in the tournament still but the Super Giants look promising. It was scratchy for a while but they managed to get the job done in the end.

19.6 Reece Topley to David Wiese, OUT! GLEESON TAKES A BRILLIANT CATCH! THAT IS THAT! Durban Super Giants make it three on the bounce and are firmly positioned at the top of the table now. Back of a length outside the off-stump, Wiese looks to cut, but takes the outside edge and went straight to Gleeson at short third who takes a good catch as Super Giants pick up a bonus point too!

19.5 Reece Topley to Nandre Burger, short into the batter, Burger dances down the track to pull but takes the outside edge to deep covers for one.

Nandre Burger has taken the review straightaway. Topley didn't look confident here. The ball seemed to have deflected but Burger looks confident that he didn't get any globe on that. There is a clear deflection but that might be off the thigh pads. Yes flat line when the ball is next to the bat. No bat involved and the onfield decision has to be reversed.

19.4 Reece Topley to Nandre Burger, BIG APPEALS FOR CAUGHT BEHIND AND GIVEN! Burger takes the review straight away, Topley wasn't even interested, it was de Kock who thought Burger had something on it. Back of a length, angling down the leg-side as Burger looking to get a tickle but it takes something on the way to the keeper.

Replays confirmed that it's the thigh that brushes along the way to the keeper as UltraEdge confirms nothing off the bat first. Burger survives.

19.3 Reece Topley to Nandre Burger, length delivery outside the off-stump, Burger reaches to slap that one away, but misses, through to the keeper.

Two in two for Reece Topley as Williams goes for a golden duck. An inch perfect Yorker which sneaks under the defence of Williams and rattles the middle pole. Topley on a hat-trick.

19.2 Reece Topley to Lizaad Williams, OUT! DRAGS IT BACK ON! Two in two for Topley, that must be the final nail in the coffin. Short on the fourth stump, Williams looks to cut, but gets the inside edge back on to the stumps and has to go for a golden duck.

Nicholas Pooran has made that catch look ridiculously easy but it was a difficult one to get hold of to be honest. He had to make a lot of ground from long and latches onto it safely.

19.1 Reece Topley to Moeen Ali, OUT! MILES UP IN THE AIR AND TAKEN! Wheels are coming off now for the Super Kings, slower one on the off-stump. Moeen with a big swing into it too early and skied it. Pooran covers good ground from long-off and pouches it safely.

That's the penultimate over done and dusted and Moeen Ali just ignited some hopes with a couple of sixes. The 5th delivery which was outside the tramline wasn't given a wide and Moeen Ali was not happy. He was seen having a chat with the umpire at the end of the over.
