Reeza Raphael Hendricks is a South African-born cricketer who plays for the South African Men's National Cricket Team. He is a right-handed opening batter. Hendricks was born on August 14, 1989, in Kimberly, Cape Province, South Africa.

He played as a middle-order batter for the Highveld Lions and as an opener for his country. He also played for the Jozi Stars in the Mzansi Super League. Reeza is 5 ft 9 in tall and can bowl right-arm off-break. Hendricks was the most expensive buy at the recently concluded SA20 Auction for the 2025 edition.

Reeza Hendricks Career

Reeza Hendricks started his professional career way back in 2006. The 35-year-old batter came through the ranks of the South African Under-19s at the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2008.

Reeza Hendricks Domestic Career

Reeza Hendricks made his domestic debut for Griqualand West against Namibia in the SAA Provincial Challenge in Kimberley on November 22, 2006. On his first-class (FC) debut, Hendricks scored 95 runs in the first innings but was dismissed for a single digit in the second innings.

A few days later, the South African made his List-A debut for Griqualand West against Namibia in the SAA Provincial Cup in Kimberley on November 25, 2006. He scored 22 runs off 26 balls before being dismissed by Nicolaas Scholtz.

In the Standard Bank Pro20 Series 2008-09 season, Hendricks made his T20 debut for the Eagles against the Lions on January 25, 2009, in Johannesburg. He did not get an opportunity to bat in his maiden T20 innings.

Hendricks scored his first century in a Twenty20 match, a 102 not out, for Lions against Dolphins in the 2017–18 Ram Slam T20 Challenge. In the tournament, Hendricks was the leading run-scorer, finishing with 361 runs from eight games.

In January 2018, he became the first player to score a century in all three franchise competitions in South Africa in the same season. He joined the Highveld Lions team for the 2018–19 season. He was named to Jozi Stars' squad for the first edition of the Mzansi Super League T20 tournament, where he scored back-to-back hundreds in the Mzansi Super League.

Hendricks was the most expensive buy at the SA20 auction for the 2025 edition. The MI Cape Town roped in the South African opener for a whopping 4.3 million South African Rands. Previously, he was part of the Johannesburg Super Kings squad.

Reeza Hendricks International Career

Reeza Hendricks has been a slow starter in terms of making his debut for South Africa across formats. He is yet to feature in a Test for the Proteas, despite making his FC debut way back in 2006.

Reeza Hendricks ODI Career

Reeza Hendricks made his ODI debut on August 5, 2018, against Sri Lanka. He became the third batter for South Africa, and fourteenth overall, to score a century on his ODI debut with his 88-ball century. This century of his also earned him a ‘Player Of The Match’ award on his debut match. He featured in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 for South Africa. He ended up in the playing XI against England as a last-minute call to replace the skipper Temba Bavuma. He scored a quickfire 85 off just 75 balls before being bowled by Adil Rashid. He played only a couple of matches for the Proteas in the tournament.

Reeza Hendricks T20I Career

Reeza Hendricks started his international cricket career for South Africa on November 5, 2014, at a T20I match against Australia donning the cap number 61. Debuting under the captaincy of JP Duminy, Hendricks opened the innings alongside wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock. He had a forgettable start to his career as he was dismissed for a duck in three balls by left-arm pacer Doug Bollinger.

Hendricks featured across three ICC T20 World Cups in 2021, 2022 and 2024. He was on and off the team and was largely considered a backup opener in place of skipper Temba Bavuma. However, Hendricks struggled to get going in the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2024 held in the Caribbean and United States of America. Despite his poor returns at the mega event, Hendricks is the third-leading run-scorer for the South African cricket team in T20Is, only behind Quinton de Kock and David Miller. He has scored 2101 runs in 73 matches so far with a career-best score of 87.

In the 3TeamCricket Solidarity Cup held in 2020, Reeza Hendricks was appointed as the skipper of the OUTsurance Kingfishers as a move to support the “Black Lives Matter” movement.

Reeza Hendricks Under-19 Career

Reeza Hendricks represented the South African Under-19s at the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2008. Under the captaincy of Wayne Parnell, the right-handed batter was part of the squad that finished as runners-up after losing the final to Virat Kohli’s Indian Under-19 cricket team.
