We now come to the conclusion of our coverage of qualifier 2 of the 2024 SA20. The Joburg Super Kings toiled hard to get here having gained a bit of steam later on in the tournament, but were no match for Durban's Super Giants, who now have a chance at beating the defending champions in the summit clash and laying their hands on the trophy. Join us right here on Sportskeeda for our coverage of the same on Saturday, and keep an eye on our tabs for a whole lot more! This is Rajarshi Das, signing off on behalf of Lavil Saldanha. Good night!
Heinrich Klaasen is the Player Of The Match! Here's what he has to say: They bowled incredibly well at the start, didn't get too many freebies. Had to dig deep, just wait for the latter overs. Just waited for Immy (Tahir) to bowl a couple of fuller ones. He bowled well upfront, didn't give us anything to work with. Missed a couple later on. The expectations are there, but at the end of the day, I need to adhere to my processes, stay humble, hopefully my processes keep going for the next couple years and I can keep hitting the ball as well as I am now. I'm playing the middle phase quite well now, trying to capitalize on it. Definitely think we need to give it back to the Sunrisers. Couple of good games against them, we played poorly in the first semi-final, hopefully we can rectify it the day after.
Keshav Maharaj, Durban's Super Giants captain: They bowled well upfront, but our guys got a decent total which gave our bowlers something to bowl to. I don't think there's many in the world who hit the ball as consistently cleanly as him (Klaasen) and I think it's a bowler's nightmare to bowl to him. He's (Mulder) come leaps and bounds, he's someone who works really hard on his game, really nice to see someone gain the rewards after years of hard work, putting his hands up and taking care of the situation. We've been really true to our processes, the ploy was to try and get wickets, my bowling unit was superb today. They kept executing the plans, kept things quite simple. At the start of the tournament, if you said we've had it this way, we would have taken it. We just got to make sure we play the same brand of cricket.
Faf du Plessis (JSK Captain): It was an excellent batting performance from them. We bowled well in the first 16 overs and then conceded 100-odd in the last 4. Klassen batted well and he has been doing so throughout the tournament. We would have loved to chase about 190 but in the end, it is two of the most consistent sides playing the finals. We did well to come back from our position. There were some great characters in the dressing room and they gave pound-for-pound performances. If I had to choose a winner, it would probably be them (SunRisers Eastern Cape).
Match summary:
Durban's Super Giants win by 69 runs
Heinrich Klaasen 74(30) | Junior Dala 4/38 (3.4) Moeen Ali 30(26) | Nandre Burger 2/27 (4)
The heavens open up as the Super Giants wrap things up in style! A margin of 69 runs - they needed two bites at the cherry to get to the final, but they get there the second time! A thoroughly convincing performance with both ball and bat, this, from the Super Giants. The Joburg Super Kings were never really in the game as they set out to chase 212, they started off poorly, and succumb to a paltry 142!
Naveen-ul-Haq and Reece Topley kept the JSK top-order mum with some steep bounce and lateral movement off the deck early on. Both openers - Faf du Plessis and Leus du Plooy departed in succession - the latter being dismissed thanks to a stupendous grab by Naveen-ul-Haq at mid off. Reeza Hendricks tried his level best to buy a run, but just wasn't able to get bat on ball more often in the powerplay.
Makhanya edged behind off the last over of the powerplay as Mulder got in among the wickets. Hendricks and Moeen Ali tried to stitch a partnership, but the required rate kept climbing as the duo managed more runs between the wickets than anything. Dwaine Pretorius, with his clever changes in pace, accounted for Moeen Ali. Hendricks departed soon after, and the writing seemed to be on the wall by then.
Donavon Ferreira and Doug Bracewell kept things interesting for a brief while before both of them holed out. The tail was mopped up in quick time as Junior Dala ended with four wickets to his name. Durban's Super Giants, having narrowly missed out on the playoffs the previous year, will have a chance at acquiring the trophy this time!
17.4 Junior Dala to Nandre Burger, BOWLED HIM! DSG WIN! Full, quick and straight at the stumps, Burger goes for the flick on that occasion but misses and his stumps are in a mess. DSG win the match by 69 runs and is en route to the finals in Cape Town, to be played this Saturday. Hard luck to JSK, who bounced back but the target was a little too much for them to chase today.
Nandre Burger b Junior Dala 1 (4b, 0x4, 0x6)
17.3 Junior Dala to Imran Tahir, full toss at the stumps. Played towards deep backward point for a single
17.2 Junior Dala to Imran Tahir, back of a length delivery outside the off stump. Tahir goes for the wild swing and has a play and a miss. No run
17.2 Junior Dala to Imran Tahir, quick bumper from Dala. Tahir ducks for his life and lets that one go through. Is called a wide for height
Imran Tahir, RHB, comes to the crease
17.1 Junior Dala to Doug Bracewell, GONE! GOOD CATCH! Back of a length delivery outside the off stump, Bracewell looks to go for the big pull on that occasion but it takes the top edge and Klaasen takes an excellent catch. In all certainty, DSG will be playing the finals this Saturday

16.3 Naveen Ul Haq to Doug Bracewell, FOUR! Low full toss outside the off stump, Bracewell reaches that one and guides it towards deep backward point for a boundary. 10 runs in 2 balls for JSK! They need many more in the remaining deliveries
16.2 Naveen Ul Haq to Doug Bracewell, SIX! TOP SHOT! Full-length delivery on the line of the off stump, Bracewell gets across to the off stump and hits that one a long way into the stands for a maximum
16.1 Naveen Ul Haq to Doug Bracewell, full and wide outside the off stump. Bracewell has a play and a miss. No run
16.1 Naveen Ul Haq to Doug Bracewell, full and wide outside the off stump. It pitches just over the tramline and is called a wide
The game has all but slipped away from the Super Kings. All that remains now are the last rites to be completed. What a performance this has been from the Super Giants with the ball, though!
