A fresh pitch is being used and there is a nice breeze around. 66m and 69m square boundaries, 78m hit straight down the ground. Does not look any different to the surface that was used in the England-West Indies game. The numbers back up the notion that this venue has more runs in it than most venues. Michael Atherton reckons it might be a challenge for South Africa, having played three games previously in New York and this being a much better batting strip. He adds it does not matter whether teams bowl first or bat first, although England might want to chase after their success against the West Indies.

Commentary

That brings us to the end of another fascinating game and at the end of it, South Africa remains the only side in the grip to remain unbeaten in the tournament. England should have chased this down from the position they got themselves in especially from the match situation after the 17th over but the South African bowlers held their nerves to seal the deal. This puts England in a tricky situation now but a massive win against USA will keep them in the reckoning so all to play for both teams. The T20 World Cup Super eight stage continues with West Indies slated to square off against USA in about six hours time. Aiden Markram (South Africa captain): Yeah once again, we have had a few those of in the tournament. However today the odds were heaving stacked against us but the fighting spirit and the skill sets of the bowlers helped us a lot in the back end. It was decent to bat in the powerplay but got slower. Another 10-20 runs being greedy, we tried to save as many runs as possible. As a whole we are getting close to a complete game, not quite there but definitely on the right track. Yeah it was always going to be a challenge but you just need one or two to have a great day and the others chip in. Not looking too deeply into it, trusting the abilities and allowing the guys to express themselves. Yeah it's always the tricky one. You want to see the bowlers best skills and then changing according to the conditions. It's part of the game. Brooki and Livi put them under the pump. Happy to hold onto that catch. That made a big difference.

Jos Buttler (England captain): I will we lost it in the powerplay. Quinton de Kock came out and played a brilliant knock and we couldn't quite match that. I think it is still a good wicket and we were happy chasing 160. Quinney batted superbly and at one stage we looked favourites when Brook and Livingstone were going great guns. The powerplay was the best time to bat and Quinney recognised that and played a brilliant knock. Yeah really valuable for Livingstone to get some match time. He has made peace with the fact that he might not be facing too many deliveries. Yeah very much in the competition. We played really well today but couldn't quite get over the line but looking forward to the next match.

At the halfway stage it looked like a pretty straightforward run chase for a power-packed England batting line up who had blown West Indies away a couple of days ago. However the South African bowlers had other ideas and came out firing all cylinders making a match out of it right from the word go. Phil Salt started in his trademark fashion and smashed a huge six off Marco Jansen in the very first over.

Kagiso Rabada provided South Africa with the maiden wicket in the form of Salt’s wicket. As much as it belonged to the bowler, it belonged to Reeza Hendricks who took an acrobatic catch at covers. Jonny Bairstow joined Jos Buttler in the middle and the duo tried to resurrect the ship. However they couldn't quite get the move on as we associate with them quite often. The run-scoring became very difficult as the game progressed and the boundaries were few and far between.

It resulted in Bairstow going for the big shot and perishing in the process. Keshav Maharaj put the squeeze on in the middle overs and prized out the wickets of Bairstow and Buttler at crucial junctures of the game to rest home the advantage for South Africa. Moeen Ali also had a struggle at the crease and was eventually dismissed for a shaky 9. With the score reading 61/4, the pressure was well and truly on the defending champions.

That is when the partnership between Liam Livingstone and Harry Brook helped them claw their way back in the game. The two aggressive batters didn't miss out on any boundary balls and found them on a consistent basis. Brook took his time initially before going berserk towards the end. With 46 runs required off 4 overs, the match was tilted towards South Africa but Ottneil Baartman gave away 21 runs to reduce the equation down to 25 required off the last three.

Rabada then coming in the 18th over got the massive wicket of Livingstone and that proved to be a massive blow in the context of the game. Marco Jansen bowled a brilliant penultimate over before Anrich Nortje sealed the deal with another spectacular final over. This takes South Africa to the top of the table in Super Eight Group 2. Rabada and Maharaj were the pick of the bowlers for South Africa with a couple of wickets each.

Quinton de Kock, Player of the Match: (On the pitch) That is the mistake people sometimes make. It definitely does not play the same as it does in the night, having played games in the league (CPL) before. Night games and day games can be two different surfaces. (On his batting plan) Bat as long as I can and score as many runs as I can. The wicket was pretty good, a bit of extra bounce and was trying to use the pace. (On if his last innings helped him) Try to go game by game, and had nothing different. Took it as a new game and that is what I focussed on. (On their bowling) I thought we bowled really well, especially in the powerplay, given that is the best time to score. Our guys were pretty solid and to defend 163 on a pretty decent wicket is a very good effort from us.

South Africa continues their unbeaten run in the competition, winning their 6th game on the trot. This has been a juggernaut of sorts from the Proteas and they would be hoping that it's time for them to break the ICC trophy jinx. A brilliant bowling performance from the Proteas because at the halfway stage the score of 163 looked significantly under par but the bowlers came out with a clear set of plan and eventually managed to squeeze out a 7 run win. They now have a foot on the semi final with one more super eight game left. England on the other hand face USA in a must win game and they might need to win the game by a big margin.

This is one of the hardest catches in cricket and buoy the captain plucks it out, he had to run backwards and had to keep an eye on the ball from the side. Holds onto it in a terrific fashion and this could be a massive massive moment in the game.

19.1 Anrich Nortje to Harry Brook, WHAT A CATCH BY AIDEN MARKRAM! Full just outside leg. Brook, who was looking to make room, does not have enough room to work with. He is slightly early into the stroke too and chips it. Markram, running back from mid off, keeps his eyes on it all the way and then snaffles it over his shoulder. Top, top catch under pressure, and South Africa ahead now!

Anrich Nortje [3-0-29-0] is back into the attack.

That's an excellent over from Marco Jansen. Just seven runs coming off that and South Africa have pulled it back in the last couple of overs. Sam Curran had to take the risk of taking that extra run on the final delivery of the over. 14 runs required off the final over.
