Right! India head into the World Cup without any practice matches under their belt. They have played enough white-ball Cricket in the recent past, so there won't be any complaints for Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid, heading into a high-octane clash against Australia on Sunday.
This is the final day for the warm-up games before the much-awaited World Cup action finally begins in Ahmedabad on Thursday. England and New Zealand will battle it out and most importantly, the weather looks better throughout the day. Now, it's time to end the coverage here, until next time, this is Pragadeesh and Pradeep signing off. Ciao
4:05 pm IST - It's pelting down again. And we have to settle down for an inevitable very soon. Match abandoned
3:56 pm IST - OH NO, AGAIN! AGAINANDAGAIN!. It has started to rain again and all the hard work done by the groundsmen for the last hour goes in vain. The pitch, squares and bowler's run-up areas have been covered now
3:45 pm IST - The markings are done. Sawdust and sand have been applied on either side of the pitch too
3:40 pm IST - Alright! The outfield has taken a heavy beating due to relentless rain from last night but the groundstaff's aren't giving up as they are working very hard to get things underway ASAP
3:31 pm IST - Two super Soopers are moving around. We will get to watch a good amount of Cricket but only if it stays this way throughout
3:23 pm IST.Good news! The main cover has been peeled off. In fact, all the covers have been removed and by the look of things, the inspection will be taking place shortly. It looks dark again and the floodlights are on
3:10 pm IST - The good news is that it looks brighter now and the bad news is that more rain is predicted later in the evening
3:00 pm IST - Super Sooper is moving around. Looks like the weights on the sheets have been removed. The spectators are seen occupying their respective seats
2:50 pm IST - The rain has stopped and the umpires are having a chat in the middle. Fingers crossed for the next update
2:30 pm IST: Not much has changed from the last update. It is still raining, there are patches around the ground which is a cause of concern. Also, in about 20 mins or so, we will start to lose overs.
1:55 pm IST: It is still raining, but the intensity of it has reduced though and with the covers are soaking wet, it's going to take the rain to stop for the toss to happen.
1:29 pm IST:The toss has been officially delayed as it's pouring down in Thiruvananthapuram. Stay tuned as we bring you the latest!
Not the news we wanted to bring in, but we might not have the toss on time as it's cloudy and the covers are on as well. Stay tuned!
Hello and welcome to Sportskeeda's live coverage of the Warm-Up Match of ICC World Cup 2023 between India and Netherlands here in Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram! This is me, Pradeep and I'll shortly be joined by my dear friend and co-commentator Pragadeesh as we take you through everything that transpires till the end of the first innings!
In case you're wondering, how these two teams fare every time they face off each other, here's something to get you going. Read below!👇
Right. Just one game remains before India open their World Cup campaign against Australia on Sunday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. If you were to be critical, India could well have done without this match, having played several high-stakes, high-intensity fixtures over the past fortnight. But now that this game must be played, India should do everything they can to optimize it.
On Saturday, they were also scheduled to play England – a contest that was eventually abandoned without a ball being bowled. At the toss, Rohit Sharma mentioned that the match was more like a formality. Not a lot has changed since then, but if India get out on the park, they will be hoping for their batters to prolong their good run of form, and will be expecting their bowlers to maintain their rhythm, even if they do not quite bowl at full-tilt.
On the batting front, Ravindra Jadeja might be one who would want a bit of time out in the middle. He has not been in great batting touch and that might be the final, missing piece in India’s batting jigsaw. There is still a cloud over who of Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav will feature against Australia – a question that the troika will hope to answer in their favour on Tuesday.
With the ball, R Ashwin has been impressive since being recalled. Now that he is in the squad proper, he would want to show India he can feature in place of Shardul Thakur, especially in conditions that assist spin. Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah, having taken a bit of tap in Rajkot, would also want to hit their straps as they prepare for Australia again.
The Netherlands, on the other hand, have a lot more to gain. ODIs against top-quality opposition has unfortunately been an aberration for them. Their fixture against Australia could not be completed due to rain, although their bowlers did get a decent run-out. That could be at the top of their agenda again, with their spinners, in particular, hoping for a more penetrative showing.
As for the batters, Max O’Dowd and Vikramjit Singh fared well during the World Cup Qualifier but came unstuck against Australia’s pace. Their top-order, in general, has struggled a little. On Tuesday, they will be up against one of the best pace-bowling troikas in the tournament, meaning that confidence gained and runs scored from that match-up will hold them in good stead throughout the tournament.
So, that is that. That is what both teams will be looking to get out of this contest. For India, it is about maintaining some continuity, while also giving their players enough rest to be ready for Australia on Sunday. For the Dutch, it is about getting some experience in these conditions, and starting to believe that they can compete against the big boys, even when the stakes are much higher.
