Shreyas Iyer, Player Of The Match: (On his own performance) I'm ecstatic, to be honest. When I went in to bat, the situation was tough. The wicket was playing good, I spoke to Ishan, he was in that frame of mind where he wanted to take on the bowling, I didn't want to intrude on his privacy at that point of time, so we decided to have good communication in between and decided that we'll play on the merit of the ball. The talk was to try and build a partnership. It's going to take a toll on my body. Tomorrow's going to be a travel day and day after, we have another match. Motivated for that, let's see what's in store for me and for the team. I'm not someone who changes according to the bowler, I'm someone who changes on instincts. If I feel certain initial movement suits me on a given day, I back myself and do it. It's something I've been practising in the nets. Backing my instincts and believing in myself has really worked out for me.

Shikhar Dhawan (India Captain): It worked perfectly for us, thanks to Keshav that he chose to bat (laughs). (Just) as we thought that the dew would come, it came at the right time. Must say that Ishan and Shreyas, the way they played, that partnership got us over the line. It was skidding and keeping low. On these sort of wickets there aren't too many good shots we can play. But it was our plan to take on the bowlers in the first 10 overs since we knew it would become difficult. But once the dew came on it skid on nicely and that's why the back foot shots were on. (On the bowling) Really very satisfied. They're all young boys and they've got lots of learning. Especially with Shahbaz, he bowled in the first ten overs. The way he used the wicket to his strengths was amazing to watch. Very happy he got a debut and I'm sure he's going to do really well for India. All the young boys too - they've taken up a lot of responsibility.

Keshav Maharaj (South Africa Captain): I think we didn't expect the dew to be such a factor. I think we tried everything in that innings so credit to my bowlers. But I think Ishan and Shreyas batted beautifully. It kept low and slow so we thought it was a good total. But after 20 overs it skid onto the bat very well with the dew and got easier with the bat.

Ishan Kishan: Feeling very good. We've won this match and it's 1-1 now. Really happy with the way we contributed as a team. It is my home ground and there were too many people watching. When I was fielding they were asking me to get a hundred today. Unfortunately I couldn't but in the next game I'll give my best again. I've played a lot of games in Ranchi and the ball doesn't come onto the bat too easy. I was not looking to play any rash shots. But it was about telling the other team also that we will take them on. (On his pull strokes) Nortje and Rabada are too quick and the ball was stopping at times while the next time they went for the bouncer it came on quick. I was just looking to take it on if it came at chest height. I was looking to put the ball into the gap and it went my way.

While the start to the run-chase was a good one for India, it seemed a tad bit cautious, especially with the way Shikhar Dhawan started off his innings. His opening partner, Shubman Gill, though, presented us with some aesthetically pleasing and scoreboard-moving strokeplay on a pitch that seemed a tad bit sluggish, with the ball stopping on numerous occasions. That factor eventually accounted for Gill's wicket after Dhawan lost his off-stump to Wayne Parnell. Having lost both their openers within the powerplay, India needed their middle-order to step up once again, and so they did!

Ishan Kishan was having some trouble negotiating the pace and bounce of Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada early on in his innings. Shreyas Iyer, though, seemed a tad more relaxed and at ease, and he was helped by the fact that his deficiencies against the short ball weren't put to the test as often. With a newly-etched stance, Iyer saw off the pace along with Kishan, and then, with the South African spin attack being introduced in the middle-overs, the duo tore after them like a wrapped present for Christmas. Kishan, having played too many dots and been tied down, got a few half-trackers from the left-arm spinners, which helped him immensely in improving his strike rate and getting to his fifty. Iyer brought up a half-century of his own the very next ball, and from thereon, there was no stopping India.

Iyer then went on to play second fiddle as Kishan, now in the zone, proceeded to take on the high pace of Nortje and Rabada, figuratively fighting fire with fire. Despite having hit so many good deliveries, Kishan, 7 away from a blazing maiden ODI hundred, holed out to a half-tracker from Fortuin and was absolutely distraught with himself. Sanju Samson then accompanied Iyer without much fuss, thanks to Kishan, this duo didn't have to deal with the pressure of the required rate. Samson started to accelerate once Iyer went past his hundred, and in the end, India coasted home with more than four overs to spare. Presentations coming right up!

Fittingly, the winning runs come off Shreyas Iyer's blade! India wrap the game up with 7 wickets to spare, this is their 3rd highest successful run-chase against South Africa, the series will go into a deciding 3rd One Day International at Delhi, and the Proteas' chances of direct World Cup qualification seems to be jeopardized!

45.5 Anrich Nortje to Shreyas Iyer, FOUR! FINISHES IT IN STYLE! Overpitched on the line of off stump as he aims for the yorker. Doesn't quite get it right as Shreyas opens the face and guides it right into the gap between backward point and short third man to seal the deal for the hosts in grand fashion. Take a bow, Shreyas Iyer! He has orchestrated a clinical run chase along with Ishan Kishan as India level the series with a 7-wicket win and 25 deliveries to spare!
